View Full Version : Bendy pipe
Hi Reefers,
Just thought i'd mention about some plastic pipe i'd
come across, handy for us reefer guys i thought!
Its about 15mm rigid but bendy, ideal for hard plumbing tanks,
This pipe is samwiched, eg, 1st layer, plastic, 2nd alaminium,
3rd plastic? in other words, its plastic inside, plastic outside with alaminium inbetween!
With this pipe you dont need elbow fitting ect, you just simply
bend it where you want it! It wont "flatten" or kink! (unless you bent it double) its also very strong and lightweight.
I beleive its used in underfloor heating systems ect
iv'e used it on my tank now for just over a year with no problems.
If anyones interested i can send a sample in the post. http://www.ultimatereef.net/ibv3/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif http://www.ultimatereef.net/ibv3/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
What good timing... I'm looking for a way to reduce the number of 90deg elbows, so a strong flexi pipe will be perfect!
What bore sizes do these come in? I'm looking for 25mm (or bigger) - about a couple of metres max - but any length longer than a feet is useful.

me to - I am looking for something like this for my overflow box
as all the bends - and associated fixings are to fiddly for my fat fingers behind the back of the tank
just one thing how do you terminate the end ie is the aluminium exposed at the ends - I suspect it is - will this cause a problem with the marine tank water
Hi guys,
Yeah, this pipe,( I thought you'd like it!http://www.ultimatereef.net/ibv3/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif I managed to get a bit more info today.
First of all, sizes,... It comes in 14mm 16mm 20mm & 25mm
this is the inside measurement of the pipe!
You'll be amazed at how strong this stuff is for its weight!
Now, you need to get this from "The plumb centre" i dont think you can get it anywhere else (so i'm told) oh yes, its
goes by the name of "uni-pipe"!.
The exposed aluminium pipe ends is not a problem, iv'e had
mine running on my tank for a over a year, the end just fur's
over with algae ect, anyway. (the aluminium is only thin, hardly noticable) if you wanted, you could "nip" the plastic ends together with pliers to cover the aluminium, but i did'nt bother & its ok? http://www.ultimatereef.net/ibv3/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif http://www.ultimatereef.net/ibv3/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif http://www.ultimatereef.net/ibv3/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
Best of luck guys http://www.ultimatereef.net/ibv3/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

The Plumb Centre - eh - must be one nearby - sure I've seen one somehwere round here - I feel a sad shopping trip coming on - why is it I don't mind shopping as long as there is some 'fish' connection - curious
guys if you have tried it, can it be welded using solvent weld glue or crimped onto pump outlets (jubilee style?
Dave
If it helps, www.screwfixdirect.co.uk sell a similar sort of thing:)
