am constructing a two foot sump tank which will be set up with mangrove pods and dsb, an eiheim 1060 and a deltec skimmer apf 600. am unsure how to compartmentalise all of this. anyone got any photos/diagrams or advice, please? http://www.ultimatereef.net/ibv3/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

a couple of links i came across that might give u some ideas...im planning exactly the same so b interesting to see ur finished design!!!...dogs sump (http://saltaquarium.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?site=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.angelfire.com%2F ok%2Fdog1%2Fsumps.html) oz's sump (http://www1.ozreef.org/diy/sump.html) ...u can get glass cut to the exact size u want from any glass merchants i.e. Boococks in B/Pool but make sure u get them to remove the sharp edges b4 handling...apart from that ive found it to be a doddle to work with and heaps cheaper than acrylic!!! http://www.ultimatereef.net/ibv3/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.ultimatereef.net/ibv3/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Hi alifen

I am also setting up an identical sump with the deltec and the 1060, I just bought a standard 2ft glass tank (£26) from the local shop then had a couple of pieces of glass cut to make the sections with. I am at the stage now were I need an inlet box of some sort?.

Couple of pics here of mine

hi phil.
since posting the message in may, i have managed to get the sump up and running, it took a few tries to fine tune it, and we probably still dont have it quite right, but all seems to be working ok. we have just upgraded to an ocean runner 3000, instead of the 1060, and will be using the 1060 for further water movement in tank. its all in the balance.
for the inlet box we used acrylic sheeting, cut and drilled with half inch holes and smoothed off.at first we used filter wool in a fine sheet to catch any gunge that got through, but stopped this as it was slowing the flow, and not letting "food" through to feed the residents of the living dsb in the sump. still waiting to take delivery of my mangrove seedlings, as s-t-m. has had problems getting them to sprout.
your pics are great, looking good. must try and get some of my set up.
cheers, alison

Hi Alison,

Good to hear you have yours sorted out and thanks for the idea for the inlet box ( another trip to B&Q ), I will probably not add any filter wool but just need somthing to defuse the flow from the return.

I am glad you like the pics but hopfully soon there may be some more to see in the tank http://www.ultimatereef.net/ibv3/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif
