Anyone tried a needle wheel conversion on a venturi type skimmer? I'm wondering if removing the venturi and replacing the impeller on a 1060 with a needle wheel would increase performance or not? Or isn't it that simple?

Fishman. I've given this a little more thought. Bearing in mind the current cost of top of the range needle wheel skimmers, which in my view are way over priced, it must be possible, for a lot less money, to convert a venturi or large airstone skimmer using a 1060 with a 'borrowed' needle wheel. I suppose you'd need a separate supply pump?

The ehiem pumps are not themselves "venturi" so you would have to pump air into it and control it.

hope this helps

If you manage it please post your photos and diagrams.

Cheers

Tryed it and it worked

not as well as i thought but it worked, i converted my skimmer from airstones to needle wheel.

I was tricky, but it is possible what you need to do is have a look at the deltecs, the needle wheels themself cost alot of money i think they are about 40£ or something, but then the biggest advantage of the deltecs is the neck and the way the foam rises and not the buble production.

If you want more information email me,

But i would not recomend it its not worth the effort to get a little more, with the money you spend on this you could buy a deltec new.

Well i did anyway.
