you may be as well looking for a second hand bubble lamp in your free ads, ive seen a couple very cheap and if you make a mistake you can always try another section. Ive got 2 here im thinking of trying to make a kalk stirrer and skimmer with. only problem is I half sprayed 1 silver and the other is white but at least i can practice with them!

found this on the web. Thought it might help
http://www.emkayplastics.co.uk/atube.htm I have never used them, it's just something that I had bookmarked.
You can start to see the price going up on a DIY skimmer if you use some decent sized tube, couple of pumps and then the needle wheels (if you can get hold of them)!
Hi Leon,
Check out Hindleys (http://www.hindleys.co.uk) I got some Acrylic tube from them, they sell by the meter I got 100mm X 1m for £10.80+vat they do larger sizes but it gets expensive and comes direct from there suppliers and only in 2m lengths. You can get it up 500mm wide but it was over a £1000 for 2m http://www.ultimatereef.com/ibv3/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cry.gif http://www.ultimatereef.com/ibv3/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cry.gif http://www.ultimatereef.com/ibv3/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cry.gif http://www.ultimatereef.com/ibv3/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cry.gif
I phoned them and talk to the owner Richard about making a Skimmer and he said that the supplier can make up parts if i sent a design to him, but I thought that it would start to get expensive so i didn't bother. I made some Phyto Reactors from the 100mm stuff, they also sell sheets of Acrylic and the Glue.

Tim when I first looked at your photo I thought the white thing on the left was a room door complete with hinges making your skimmer about 8 ft tall.
Looks a very neat job Tim why not post the plans in the DIY section if it is a good performer.
cheers
Phil, That would make the bottle of Kent whatever about 2' high. I guess then it would be worth the money they charge for it about right. http://www.ultimatereef.com/ibv3/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif Les http://www.ultimatereef.com/ibv3/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif http://www.ultimatereef.com/ibv3/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/devil.gif

hi all,
after weeks of searching the web, i now have the parts to make three large skimmers, at the cost of £120.
the skimmer will be:- reaction chamber 50cm h 25cm dia
inlet 32mm outlet 50mm
it will run on 3x aqua-bee pumps
1x 10cm neck on the cup
will post pics in a few weeks

Guys I have contacted a company in Lincoln who make acrylic filters for aquariums. *They are putting together the basic components for a Aerofoamer Skimmer for me for the fantastic price of £120. *Added to this is of course a decent pump and the pipes but I should still come in as a fairly large and effective skimmer (I have seen these in operation) for under £200
Skimmer will be a lot like this, but the dimensions a bit larger
http://www.ultimatereef.net/uploads/im000598.jpg
The main difference will be the main skimmer body. *I have opted for an 8" acrylic tube, which should give me a decent volume of water for a longer contact time. *Rather than the normal pin wheels and stuff it will be run via a Beckett Foamer.
I will post once I get the bits connected together
For a more detailed schematic have a look at the dimensions here Skimmer diagram (http://www.reefworld.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/new_page_1.htm)
PS cant take all the Credit. *Skimmate has helped me sort out all the dimensions and stuff so http://jabot2000.homestead.com/files/emoticons/clap.gif credit where credit is due
