Thanks (again) http://www.ultimatereef.com/ibv3/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif.

Pretty neat. Extra sump space AND tailor-made for height - keep the skimmer in there and have the cabinet at a more orthodox "furniture" level.

I'm still wondering how to use the height in my cabinet (if I put the skimmer in there). Si's double decker sump, a shelf with electrics......

Good to think about,

kim

druid, the dog is half of a pair and believe it or not they eat about 4 fish each per week!

(they are partial to pilchards and its good for the coat)

Kim,

Not sure if it is much help.... but I have utilised the extra height awarded to me for using the 850. I have done this by building a 3'x2' timber frame, sealed and painted.

I have two a 1ft high sumps within the cabinet.... on a four foot tank - which has given me all the extra space I needed for a ca reactor, kalk stirrer and refugium.

Without the double-decker layout I would certainly not have the space - due to plumbing - as the skimmer etc are external to the sump - as the sump cabinet is water-tight.

Elliot,

Hi.

Yes, I am thinking of the double-decker approach though probably still keeping the cabinet height around 90 cm. or so. The 850's a bit big for me !

Thinking of a double decker refugium - sand below, weed on top, and maybe lifting the top-up reservoir above the main sump. Using simple steel stands to hold the top levels.

Just have to work out how much vertical gap I have left - without clear access it would obviously be a nightmare (things are way too heavy to be moving around on a regular basis). After 6 months I'd probably end up selling ! That would be an expensive mistake..............

Plan B...
