Hi Si
Great site!!
Trying to blatently rip off your ideas (though on a smaller scale)!!
Planning on a 4*2*2 tank with two overflows and returns
How far off the top of the tank are your holes?
What size holes would you suggest for this size of tank?
TIA

Hi m8.
Thanks very much for the comps...... http://www.ultimatereef.com/ibv3/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
ref hole sizes and such......If i was in your shoes i would opt for either the same size holes as me. ie 55mm for the overflow bulkhead fittings, and 27mm for the returns to take the 22mm bulhead waste fitting.
As for the dimentions, it depends on your tank speks, but suffice to say....use the dimentions for the overflow weirs as stated on my website under DIY. All you need to do is measure 112mm down from where you want your water line to sit ( + 2-3mm to allow for the water to rise over the top of the weir before it falls in) say 115mm from proposed water line.(this marks the bottom edge of the weir).....your hole center will be 57mm down from your water line. http://www.ultimatereef.com/ibv3/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
You can put the return holes wherever you like in the back panel as long as you remember that you 'MUST' fit some method of anti siphon (see plumbing 1 and 2 in DIY) should the pumps go off. this only applies if your returns are set below your water level.
You could go down to 32mm at a push for the overflows but you will have to consider that the smaller pipie wont pass as much water down it if your using a big return pump. I would allways go for 2 overflows though, to remove water from both ends.
Hope this helps......
