View Full Version : Overflows
Hi all,
I want to get my 4 foot tank drilled at each end so i can fit a couple of side installed overflows. Question is, what size holes/plumbing will i need to keep up with an Eheim 1250, lifting about 4.5 foot??
Cheers
Hi Eugene an excellent place for this sort of info is Simon Garrats Reef Eden site you can link to His site from any of his posts. IMO the 1250 is not big enough for the job, you will need probably a 1060 or a ocean runner, for decent circulation hope this helps regards Darryl.
Cheers Daryl, I have no idea why i wrote 1250, because i have a 1060...... must be an xmas hangover.
Anyway, just quickly, what, roughly, do Glass companies charge for drilling tanks??
Cheers

You'll struggle to find a glass company that will drill existing (i.e. pre-built) tanks. If you carefully remove the end panels they will drill them (at your risk however). Another option is ask around on this board and see if anyone has a glass drill you could borrow.
A 30mm hole will take a 3/4" tank connector and a 35mm hole will take a 1" tank connector BTW.
Hope this helps.
If your tank needs holes drilling in it, you should try Clearwater Aquatics in Leicester, they told me they do this during one of me visits there. They are a friendly lot and will always help if they can.
Tank drilling usually costs around £10 per hole.
Clearwater Tel no is 0116 2743426 if you need it
eugene if you dont fancy drilling tank have a look at tunze overflows thay do about 900lts p/h you can have 2 for good flow
i have a 5x2x2 with 2x 1.25 outlets on back glass and have to turn down a ehiem1060 cause its to powerful
if i was you and you go ahead with drilling make sure you drill bottom glass you can get more outflow from them
