View Full Version : Closed loop plumbing...
Ok peeps, another quick question.
If I wanted to add a closed loop system to my tank by going up and over the top of it with both the feed and return, how do I prime the pumps?
TIA

D , dead simple advice on how to do this, once the pipework is in place inside the tank and the pump is ready to roll, all you need to do is - SUCK!!!. just on the inlet hose before you attach it. once it is attached the siphon will have formed and water should be in the chamber of the pump for ya!
You could put an inline tap just before the pump so you can isolate the flow if needed - this will stop you drinking S/W, but I haven't bothered IMO you stand more chance of leaks.
hope this helps

Anyone got any photo's of their setups? Im thinking of having the pumps sat on the brace bars above the tank.

D , FWOW I tried using pupms up on my brace bars and found it just kicked out a load of bubbles into the tank, dunno if it was just my plumbing or what but I sacked it off.

Don't the pumps need to be lower than the surface level of the water to create the siphon?http://www.ultimatereef.com/ibv3/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

Hi Chris.
Depends, some pumps will pull just as well as they push, but most will only push. hence a more common need to have them below the water level.

Si.
