I can't decided on black or blue backgrounds - post lots of tank pics please http://www.ultimatereef.com/ibv3/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif

Naturally - any nice aquascapes will also be shamelessly plagiarized! http://www.ultimatereef.com/ibv3/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Tuan,

Something as large as you are having, I would choose black. That is the colour I will be going for when I have mine done http://www.ultimatereef.com/ibv3/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

I have had both black and blue in the past and I think black will better suit a deeper tank (esp 4ft deep!http://www.ultimatereef.com/ibv3/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif, as well as being a better colour for corals to stand out against.

James.

I know where youre comin from, I deliberated over this for a whilebefore deciding on Black.

I prefer Black. I think it shows up the colours better with a black background.

Anyway, rember, that unless youre gonna do the unusual and scrape the back panel regularily, it will get covered in Corraline after a while.

As my old tank did quite quickly.

Thanks Bri,

With 4' depth I think black would really give that really deep look... though some of the dark blue background is still "interesting".
I might paint a wooden panel or something and hook it on so I can change my mind with the colour though - would also let me see what I'm doing from behind the tank.

As far as progress... the wall has been hacked, the "base" casted in concrete, so we're way beyond the point of no return!

I've updated the 'Dream tank' thread (http://www.ultimatereef.net/cgi-bin/ibv3/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=4;t=4763;st=20) with some pics of progress. http://www.ultimatereef.com/ibv3/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I went for black this time having had blue before. As already seen it is mainly purple corraline covered and green from a little algae that grows there too. I think the panel is a good idea and been able to remove it and see into the tank when you are working from the back is good too.

tuan, im just setting mine up now too and after a lot of considering have gone for black, it seems to provide a much better contrast and seeing as everything else on my tank and stand is black it would be a shame to deviate now http://www.ultimatereef.com/ibv3/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

I posted a similar question a few weeks ago Tuan and the results are as you would expect fairly mixed. As I am just a bout trady to plumb in the system I opted for a deep blue colour (not the usual sky blue LFS use, but a much darker blue).

As I am an avid Scuba Diver, my experience is that when you look out from a reef wall the open water looks much darker than the baby blue commonly used which is why I opted for the dark Blue. It looks good on the tank, but theres no water or anything in there yet so I will let you know.
