After what seems like months of shyness my Maroon clown has finally plucked up enough courage to be a regular member of the tank! Just to prove it I managed to get a shot of him. Not the best pic in the world, I'm still getting used to taking the pics through glass!

He's a great looking fish and I am really glad I can now see more of him.

Thanks Adam, he's actually really friendly. Comes right up to my hand to investigate whenever I'm working in the tank. Much a better than a tomato clown I encountered this week who have your hand off as soon as look at you! Really aggresive.

Its quite funny really the clown has been hiding behind a powerhead for ages. This week I added some large snails to attack my hair algae problem, guess what there favourite place to congregate is by the powerhead! Mr clown hates that so out he swims he's getting used to it now and is out much more often. The powerhead is coming out next week when my closed loop goes in. I can't beleive it made homeless by a snail!!

Hi Wet.W

Nice one m8......Love the Yellow banded Maroons. My two are inseperable...

Interesting to note that Yellow bands like yours and mine rarely if ever loose the stripes, they dont even get narrower, and the Red border for the fins remains.....unlike the more common red Maroon.

Gorgeous,,,

Si.

PS. All you need now is a mate... http://www.ultimatereef.com/ibv3/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

hi wet, nice looking fish m8 - im actually thinking about one of these(female) as a tankmate for my lionfish, ive seen them kept together before and they seem to go together ok as long as size is approx the same. its made me think more about the yellow bands too.

cheers

Thanks Guys I would love another one, don't see them very often. When I got this one it was the first time I had seen one in my lfs. They have not had any since. How do you tell wether they are male or female by the way?
Si your two look gorgeous.

Hi Wet.W

Usually any clown that is held singly will become female with maroons this will be at about two inches.......If your picking a mate then he should ideally be smaller than her to ensure a good/better chance of bonding say below 1 1/2".......choosing a mate of the same or similar size will probably result in a prolonged amount of agression or possible injury to either fish..paul was half the size of helen when i got him.

If you do a search for 'pairing clowns' on the BB you should come up with some old posts of mine.
