After a mishap on holiday with my Olympus C2020 *http://www.ultimatereef.com/ibv3/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif *I am looking for a new Digi camera. I am in the research stage at the moment and am looking at the Nikon CP5000 or Fuji finepix S602 as options.

One problem I found with my Olympus was that the screen was unviewable in bright light and I had to look through the *optical viewfinder. On some digi cameras the viewfinder is also LCD, does this give viewing problems or are they sufficiently bright and sheilded to enable viewing in very bright conditions.

If anyone has any comments on the above cameras or alternative recommendations for digi camera in the £4-600 range, feel free to comment.

Thanks,

There are different kinds of LCD. For example the "transflective" ones used in Compaq iPaq's actually look better in sunlight as they have a reflective back surface. Your best bet is to go into a store on a sunny day (yes I know.... we're in the UK) and ask if you can try them all out!

I've been using a c40Zoom for about 12 months and think it's quite good. I didn't buy it but If I had the choice I would probably of gone for a Fuji as I've had them in the past.

As for the Nikon.... haven't used them myself but they do make probably the best optics in the world!?

Main considerations IMO, should be:

Optical Zoom.
CCD density (no. of mega pixels).
Lithium battery.
Size.
Type of memory used (do you already had a drawer full of smartmedia cards like I have?).

D.

[edit] As long as what you see in the viewfinder is TTL (through the lens) and not from another smaller viewing port on the front of the camera. What you see in there is what you're gonna get in your photo's!!

Hi
Would give consideration to the new olympus 5050 nice camera takes all the best bits from the 2020 and makes it a nice evolved 5 mega pixel design.

As for LCD pretty much all digital cameras have the same problem so I would always choose one with a view finder.

What about LCD viewfinders though,

I'm surprised I havn't had any responses on the cameras I mention, as I know members use them or variations of them *http://www.ultimatereef.com/ibv3/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

Maybe they are poo and people don't want to admit they bought a cr*ppy camera publicly *http://www.ultimatereef.com/ibv3/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif *http://www.ultimatereef.com/ibv3/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

Well I'll put my 2 p's worth in.

I spent hours and hours of research and testing.

Came very close to buying the Nikon 5700 BUT didnt like its image quality although its macro is excellent.

I bought a Canon G2 with all the additional lenses and I must say I still DO NOT regret it. Plus I got a 1 Gig IBM microdrive all in for £600 which seems alot but when you consider I have a 4 meg camera with enough room to hold 400 Top quailty pictures or thasunds of low quality (not sure why anyone would delberately take low quality though when you should take top quality and then edit them later on your PC).

Mind your the G3 is now out and a bit cheaper. Havent read up on it cause I dont want to #### my self off.

Olympus yes I can see a justification in those.

FUJI.....mmmmm...I'll keep my opinions to myself.

I have a fuji 6900z which is has been superceded by the 602z. The 6900 is a good camera. Mind you, I've upgraded to a D60 and it's the beez.
