View Full Version : Maldives
Hi all, I'll be going to Meerufenfushi in the Maldives next Jan(I know it's a long time away http://www.ultimatereef.com/ibv3/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif )
Anybody had any diving experience there. The websites certainly give the impression that the diving is excellent,
cheers, Anthony
Never been Scuba diving there but have been Snorkelling in the Maldives and it is brill, there are millions of fish, its like being in one very big reef tank *http://www.ultimatereef.com/ibv3/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif . Only downside is that there are probably better places to go for corals as a lot were damaged by El Ninio
Ever swam with Sharks, Ever swam with a shoal of 3m Manta Rays, ever swam with a shoal of thousands of Moorish idols or millions of anchovies (not exotic in themselves but in this quantity it is impressive), ever been surrounded by a shoal of hundreds of dolphins flipping and dancing in the water around you - well you will in the Maldives.

You will love it there
ps - The dolphins in this quantity are rare, I was lucky (but so might you be)
The Maldives are like Disney land for reefers but better

I can't wait either, i'm going in November. Having had a great snorkelling holiday in Egypt last year I was thinking of 'just' snorkelling again in the Maldives, would I be missing out on much by not Scuba diving as well?
Not quite the same but I am also going to Malta for four days next week to do a bit of snorkelling, any one else been, if so what is it like?
Cheers, Fishy
I have been told by hardened snorkellers that you miss nothing by "just" snorkelling, and is in many ways better, *especially of you can snorkel properly i.e don't just stay on the surface but can hold your breath and dive.
The argument is that you have much more freedom as you have no equipment to carry around and worry about and as most of the reef action is in shallow water you are not missing anything.
I'm not 100% convinced, but I "only" snorkell and love it.

Hi
I went to Meeru last may.A very big island compared to most in the maldives
The lagoon is huge and you need to take a boat trip for the best snorkeling.Having said this there are lots of fish to see and swim with around the break waters.Keep an eye out for the baby black tip reef sharks are lots of them in the lagoon and I used to swim with them every day.The visibility can be a bit iffy at times, due to the size of the lagoon and the wave action. The east side is better in the afternoon.Pm me your email addy if you want to see any pics.
Cheers Graham :)
