View Full Version : Subject Of The Month (March)
March's Coral subject is Acropora sp. so I'm expecting to see a huge reponse here. Seems to be a popular choice for reefers these days :D
Here's a few of my favourites to get us going.

I'm not really happy with this shot but at the moment, my frags are just that, frags.
Maybe we can revisit this topic in six months when they have grown a bit more.

Great shots everyone,
Steve, are they wild specimins or grown on from frags ? looks like you've got some more hiding in the background too B)
Craig, that's a nice coral too :)
Tuan, great growth there :o
DML, you're first pic looks very similar to the purple tipped in my last pic posted, unfortunately that coral is no longer with me, but the good news is that there are several frags of it in people's tanks :) that's the great thing about sharing frags the coral lives on if something happens to the mother colony.

Hi Ziggy,
These particular Acro's are a bit of a mix.
The green 'Bali' type was a 1 inch brown frag rescued from the sand of a friends tank which is no more. :(
The sencond 'purple job' (note the techie name as I don't believe in trying to identify them from books etc.) looked exactly like a 2 inch length of Twix when I got it from my LFS. There were no branches on it at all and it was brown.
I'm pretty sure that the 'minty green with pink tips' model was a farmed coral as the base rock was far too regular (circular). It's also grown really quickly.
And yes, your keen eyes have spotted more dotted around. I think I'm upto about 20 different species at the mo. :) Just call me Acro mad - I suppose.
Hi Steve,
Nice one.
Any chance of some info on your set up, not sure if this thread is the right place but maybe in members tanks :)
Here's a couple of top down shots I took. Darn difficult with the reflections of the 400wers and the heat burning my arm while trying to hold the camera.
Here's an Acropora I got as a frag from Martin Lakin around September 2001. It now measures around 17" or so across. Ignore the bit in the middle as I'm experimenting mounting corals within corals to make use of space :)

Here's an Acropora millepora? I got as a frag from Jonathon Hannon via UK Marines in October 2000. It now measures around 13" accross. Eeveryone who has a frag of this from me seems to be able to turn their frag bright blue but in my tank it always remains somwhat inbetween, but makes up for it due to the great growth form:

OMG :o   17" & 13" across
We're not worthy, we're not worthy  B)
So you're going to need to upgrade that tank again soon :P
Fantastic Si :)
Jeez Simon! You need a few streams just to blow past that acro jungle! Wowee!

Ziggy do you mean me? (DLC?)
Yeah you are right there its like having a failover system grow your frag, split it and give it away then if thigs go wrong split the one you gave away and start all over!!!
Great idea Ziggy, on the note of great ideas would any one like to give me frags for safe keeping? ;)
DLC,
LOL you can but try, no frags available atm though, sorry
Andy,
