View Full Version : Diving
Does anyone know about diving in Zanzibar? It sounds good and I have just booked to stay at Matemwe Beach in September with a view to diving Mnemba atoll. It is a circular reef with aquarium conditions on the inside and some good wall diving on the outside. It sounded so good I couldn't resist.

Keith,
It might be worth checking with them the state of the corals. Last week we heard from the DI of the centre we dived with in the Seychelles and the water temp has gone up to 33C in the last few weeks and basically everything is dead in terms of the corals. :(
FWIW
Hi Andy,
I have been onto the dive outfit in Zanzibar and they say that the local coral has not been affected by the same conditions as the Seychelles. They also say that a collegue who has dived both Mnemba and the Sechelles in the last year reports that Mnemba Island coral is so much better and more impressive. I am getting really excited now.

Keith,
Please let me know how it goes. I am seriously thinking of going to Zanzibar but I need to know it's really good , 'cos I'm a big wimp when it comes to jabs and last time I checked Zanzibar required more injections than a heroine addict on a good day
Yeah,
Tell me about it! Fortunately most of my jabs are up to date and I only need typhoid and yellow fever. Incidentally a malaria prophylactic is needed but the recommended one, Lariam, has halucinogenic effects and is not recommended for divers.

By the way I have just booked a last minute trip to Marsa Shagra. To celebrate the opening of the new airport at Marsa Alam on 14th May Oonas Divers are offering £100 off their Southern Red Sea Safaris in May and I just couldn't resist.
I will update you on Zanzibar in due course but I am not going until September.

Zanzibar is great! The diving is first class too!
If you travel around you can even swim and snorkel with wild dolphins on the south of the Island at Kizimkaze! Make sure you do a dive called the Big Wall - lots of sharks and pelagics.
Have a great time
David
keith,
Who did you book through?
Thanks
Elliot
Elliot,
Sorry to be so long getting back to you but I have just come back from a week at Marsa Shagra.
The outfit I used for Zanzibar was www.africatravelresource.com
