View Full Version : Padi
Hiya,
Could anyone tell me what sort of price I should expect to pay?
We have a local dive school - who want 399 per person per PADI.
Thanks

Hi Elliot,
I take it this is for the Open Water course? If so, the price seems a little steep. My local club does the full course with equipment hire etc. for £299 per person.
Cheers,
Carl
Sounds a bit expensive to me too. I would expect around the £300 mark in the UK too.
Ahhh glorious london :)
we are going for it!

I'm a London based Diver and it still sounds expensive to me. I've had a quick search on the web and prices in London seem to be no more than £340 (and that was from one in Central London).
Ultimately though the most important thing is not the cost but your safety. I would recommend doing a try dive with the instructor first to check you are happy with him since instructors vary a lot and I have, unfortunately, seen people nearly give up learning to dive because their initial instructor was so bad.
If you're not planning to dive in the UK you could do a referral here then finish off somewhere like the red sea (probably wouldn't cost much more and you'd get a whole week diving the reef). Prices for Egypt are silly at the moment and at nearly 10 egyptian pound to the pound it will be dirt cheap out there.
Have fun learning.

Elliot some places in the caribbean and floriday will do it for $25, yes $25
They expect you to rent the gear to you and charge boat travel but if you have your own kit you save.
At least you have got a few hundred quid spare to spend on flights to the sun
AND the water is clear just like a reef tank
:D :D :D

You nasty lot ;)
I think it's the instructor not the Cert body that makes or breaks the situation. Yes it is unfortunate that PADI instructors get paid peanuts per student so in order to make a living it appears that some instructors let standards slip. On the up side, PADI have spent the most time and effort on the training materials so they are maybe the best educators (if the students bother to do the coursework and not have some sub-standard instructor just read out the answers :( :( :( ).
YMMV :D
I did my open water course in florida and it was about £300 per person which included everything, even food and transport.
