View Full Version : Marine Stockist In South Yorkshire ?
Hi,
Im based in Sheffield, and I know its a long way from the sea (!!!!!!), but There only appears to be one shop who stock marine equipment and livestock, and thats Wards of Dronfield. NE one know any others ?
ta.
Simon.
Hi,
There's one called Natureworld near Rotherham. Forgot exactly where but they do have some marine stuff in. Think it might be in Maltby?
Mark.
looks like there is a gap in the market, anyone fancy opening a marine shop with me in sheffield !!!!
thanks will look that name up.
Hi Simon,
I too am in sunny Sheffield, and yes I agree a distinct shortage of marine dealers in Sheffield. Personally my favourite is Fit Filtration which is located at Castle Donnington. Some distance away I know but can get there in less than an hour. Possibly the smallest shop I have ever been in but dont let that put you off. Its marine only and in my opinion well worth the trip. Otherwise Natureworld at Maltby or have you tried UK Marines at Batley, they also have a good selection. Would love to hear of any other undiscovered gems out there so keep the suggestions flowing.
Opening a shop?. Sounds like a good idea but I suspect would take the pleasure out of the hobby.
Regards
Dave
Another good shop not a million miles away is Clearwater Aquatics in Leicester. I drove there from Reading and it was worth the trip. :)
fantasea at mansfield is a good one within about an hours drive (i,m at rotherham) if you watch out for their "open day" in practical fishkeeping they are very cheap but i think it only happens twice a year rich
thanks for tips,
Found a couple fairly nearby at weekend, Both in Batley. Animal House and UK Marines. Both very nice shops.
about 45 mins to Batley on a Sunday.
Cheers.
Simon, how would you rate Wards? Is it worth a visit ? Last time I was there it just did Trops and Koi. Did you come off the M1 at junction 40, or go the M62 route to UK and A-H ? On a Sunday junc 40 saves you a good few miles in juice B)
Hi Simonm
I live in West Yorkshire and am only about 15 mins from Batley,
Both the shops you mentioned are very good, I have had things from both.
But as a beginner myself, I think Oasis in manchester is 150% worth the trip. If you can manage to swing it on a weekday, they're much quieter
and will chat to you for ages if you need advice/help without being condesending (which I found is a rare thing once you admit your new to the hobby)
And the fish are EXCELLENT!

Hi Darrly,
Wards is OK, its small ish, there are only about 12 verticle tanks and 4 flat tanks of marines. The fish look great though. Only a tiny selection of marine hardware. If you passing (from a marine point of view) its worth popping in. Staff are not too helpfull and I have been spun a line or two when asking questions (test questions) about tropicals.
To get to Batley I came off at M1 J 40 and across, its not far, maybe 10mins from M1. Warning though, Bradford road is closed one way, as you head north but, the diversion is easy to follow and you come back onto Bradford road just b4 UK Marines.
I found another one yesterday, in Glossop, Aquatonic, think there on www.aquatonic.net, not a massive shop but a realy realy helpfull staff, think one guy was Tony. Chatted to me for ages, helped me out with a lot of decisions. They have a larger selectrion of marines than Wards do. And a lot more hardware than wards.
