Hi all,

My name is Alex, I'm the administrator of the 'http://81.26.106.14/marinforum' forum (see my pics on the main page of this site under 'Contact / About this forum').

The forum has been set-up as a hobby of mine. The site runs on my home workstation, running Windows 2000 workstation (will be upgraded to server soon), running PHP, MYSQL, & IIS V5.0. (with approprate service packs & hot fixes).

The site, will only be available for a couple of weeks, (possible longer) as the infrastructure is far from ideal. Currently I'm running ADSL at home, & with some configuration of my router/firewall I'm able to offer you with website.

However, in order for the site to be available my home PC would need to be on 24/7, & not wanting to burn a hole in my pocket with the electricity bills I cannot see an easy way round this ! I addition my ADSL connection's currently running on a 'dynamic' rather than 'static' IP (needed to run websites), hence when my routers powered off, & re-booted I'll get a completly new I.P. As a result you'll all need to change the htp:// address in your browsers, to reconnect to this site (& how do I keep you guys & gals informed of this ? (maybe an e-mail mailing list would suffice, your comments are welcome).

However (& this is a big however), please 'do' register on my site, as all postings, user accounts & associated uploads 'WILL' be stored until such time that I can offer a more permanent solution.

Take care all, & if any of you wish to contact me directly please do so :- aloquens@fairadsl.co.uk

Regards
'Chew'

dunno if this helps
1) Check the lease expiry on your DHCP IP address - most DHCP type ADSL ISP's give you such a long lease it rarely expires- so the address stays the same
2) Register with dyndns.org- google will point you at it- you can register a "hostname"that will allow routing to your website regardless of your IP and its free. i can't rememebr if you need a router on your line that supports this or not- It did not bother me as I have an ISP that provides a permanent IP (demon)
