a little information about the tank, its 5x2x2 with a 4x18x18 homemade sump made from a 48 x 18 x 18, it has a small trickle filter containing bio balls, and a deep sand bed. I have a small external power filter (fluval 104) containing rowaphos and the water returns to the main tank by a oceanrunner 3500. I have a AP600 deltec protein skimmer on.

The main tank also contain 5 maxijet 1200 powerheads for water circulation, 1 is on constantly and the other 4 are on a surge control.

My lighting is a series 3 metal halide twin 150w 14,000k with twin actinics and 2 x T8 50/50 light.

The tank has been set up since june 2002. i have several acroporas, hydnropora, stylopora, seriatopora, turbinaras, helipora, trumpet, sun corals, bubbles, euphyllias, montipora, tube worms, polyps 2 clams, plate corals i also have 14 fish, pr clarkii clowns 6 anthias, gramma yellow tang, koles tang, pair scooter blennies, 2 serpent starfish, blood shrimps, cleaner shrimp, hermits crabs, flame scallop

Nice tank Deb,

From what ive read on the forums etc, ppl have recommened removing the bio balls as they become a nitrate factory and as youve got a deep sand bed which is used to help remove nitrates, your giving your DSB a hard job to constantly keep the nitrates down.

Hopefully some more advanced member will be able to be more precise with the answers if I have got them a bit wrong!

but other than that a VERY nice tank!
Hope my tank can look as nice after just over a year!

Deb,

Very nice.... you have understated the clams slightly, as the one in the bottom right is HUGE. How long have you had it ?

James.

The clam has been in the tank for about 10 months, and has doubled in size. Its now approx 7ims wide by approx 6ins high and when open fully the mantle is around 9 - 10 ins. Its only downfall is as its a derasa (sand clam) it tends to move round the tank a bit

to Glenn & Emma, thanks for the comments. The clams are easy to look after. We now are using the constant feeding method, thats been recommended by our LFS. It seems to work very well indeed
