Very sweet!
Hi Craig,
Looking great m8, Can't wait to see it in the flesh again.
Cheers
:D
nice craig i like the plating colonies and branching rock , really sets it of well any frags in there or are they all mother colonies...FISHMAN....
Suk any time m8.
Fishman....I must admit I mainly by mother colonies, however there are few frags in there either supplied by my butter fingers breaking bits off my colonies by accident, there are also a few frags supplied by Suk and Keith from our Midlands club.
Oh and a few I have been fortunate enough to save when the main colony has started to bleach.
Craig.
edit - spelling
Love the aquascaping and coral placement as fishman said, how are your SPS colouring up under 6500K?
looking good, how about some closeups also.
thanks ant
Craigg have you got four weirs there??nic
Yep 4 weirs.
Left and right weirs each house - Tunze skimmer, 6100 stream and Tunze Turbelle 7240 power head
Middle 2 weirs house - 2 Tunze Turbelle 7240 each.
Therefore there are 6 Turbelles and 2 streams in total. Along with 2 * 3140 Skimmers
Ant - I'm getting rid of ALL 6.5k Lamps, adding 1 extra unit and then having 3 10k's and 2 20k's alternating eg 10, 20, 10, 20, 10.
Plenty of growth with 6.5k's but ZERO colour unless you like brown of course.
Craig.

Tank as of tonight. Sorry but it looks a bit pants at the moment, still may have to strip it all down soon as we are thinking of moving. Seriously thinking of giving up if we move.
http://www.ultimatereef.net/uploads/fulltank271003.JPG
Tank is currently lit my 3 * 400 watt 14k halides, 4th is still awaiting igniter and I h8ed the yellow effect of the 6.5k so removed it altogether.
craig.
demoralised, what with monti eating nudi's and acro's always turning a nice shade of brown.
The only good thing is the fish.

Craig you still a bit dispondant m8, it's looking good. Hows the lights?
I'm pleased :D with the lights Garry, I like the blue tindge, shame my acros have stayed brown though.

perhaps it's more than a light thing? it's hard to say, but stick with it m8. It's a very nice tank, many would love it themselves craig. Stiff upper lip :)
your colouration wont change over night m8 just cause youve changed the lighting,it will take time maybe 6mths.
also you say you have brown acros? they may be brown acros. just cause you change the light they wont suddenly become pink with shiny yellow spots on,it may be just thats what it is,give it time with 10s and 20s on you cant do much better light wise, just leave it be and mither the missus to take you for some blue acros....
I know what your saying, its just that its taken 6 months to get to a point where I dont think I'm taking the tank any further forward, and yes I know 6 months is very short amount of time (plus of course 12 months on the previous tank building up stock) .
I'm just not convinced I can put the money, time and PAIN into a new tank if and when we move, its the perfect opportunity if you like for a clean break. While we are where we are and the tank is in situ there is no way I could / would strip it down. But a new house would be blank canvas.

i do see where your coming from craig. And i have said to my wife, if i ever find my tank to be a chore, it's time to give it up. Reefs are there to enjoy, if it becomes a burden, well you know the rest. I hope you make the right decision craig. What would you do then tho  ?????

i think it looks good m8, colour will take time - i had a brown acro that now has purple tips (took about a year to colour up  ). Is there some sort of link here with the 6500k bulbs? - it is possible as your acro's are brown and garrys are green and you were both using the same bulbs. Maybe they have produced more zoo' to protect them from the intensity of a 6500k bulb , hence the colour. Just a thought.
si, very interesting thought.

only time will tell m8 - if you want some coloured acros give me a shout.
shout twice

Hi Craig,
Nice pics m8, Looks like the reef's coming on leaps & bounds now. You been down to Taunton again no doubt.... ;) How are the water parameters, & any improvement in the Acro colouration?
Cheers
:)
Hi Suk,
Nope havent been down to Taunton for what seems like ages.
As for Acros, still have some bleaching damage occuring, but some are showing signs of colouring up.
Things have improved since I started using my refractometer and got everything stable, my hydrometer was showing 1.026 but when I first used the refractometer it showed 1.030. I've now binned the hydrometer and am just using the refractometer, the sg is now 1.026. acoording to the refractometer and thats where it will stay.
I'm defo much happier now than a few weeks ago and can once again see a future in this tank.

WOW, any problems you have found with not having a sump???
Tuan what do you mean, its all my skill. NOT.. Camera is sooooo good.
Tufty...none, that said I'm working on a few plans to put a sump / fuge / frag tank / all my light ballasts in a shed on the side of the house. Tank has a direct link though the wall. Got the timber just need to build it, but its toooo cold at the moment.

Looks really nice.. B)
Someone on reefcentral asked me to do a photostitch.
Thought it woud be rude not to post it on here as well.
Craig.
http://www.tauntonaquariumcentre.co.uk/images/Forumpictures/tank1600.jpg
Excellent ! Was the stitching done on camera or via other sw?
Hi Tuan,
Via Photostitch software I got free with my G2, cant remember if it came with my 300d as well. Must check may even have an updated version.
Craig.
Update: Yes there is a newer version bundled with the 300d.
;) Great Shots Great tank ;)

I wants me a gorgonian :D
Stunning craig, i thought you were selling the system???
Selling is one option. The other is to replace the cabinet and transfer everything (cant get my head around that option yet).
But whilst it is my possetion I will maintain it with 110% commitment.
Craig.

Wish it were mine!

Some pics from tonight, be warned that photos make it look good...when in truth it looks ****.
Cant wait to strip it now, can'nt come soon enough. Having some issues with acro tips "burning" etc. also in the process of losing my large table acro (far left), taken some frags but too late I think.
The fish are as healthy as can be though.

Sorry to hear about you stripping the tank down Craig...as you say, the photos make it look really good.
Do you know what the problem is?
What are you going to do, set it up again from scratch? ...or a fish-only setup?
Cheers
John
Fish only with live rock is odds on favourite at the moment.
Finding losing the corals a bit depressing at the moment.
no idea whats causing it, all reading ok except phosphate which is rather high so I guess its that.
Although I'm now thinking that 400 watt lamps are to much, and may try 250's. (can have more for less if you know what I mean). Increasingly I'm thinking 400 watters are over kill. but then I would guess I'm pretty much alone in that thinking and have no scientific proof.
Craig
The Tangman

that would be such a shame to strip that fantastic tank
could it be the sand bed?? sorry im not a great lover of sand beds but in the first pic it looks a bit iffy
Would the acro tips burning be related to the problem SiG had with lowbays?
yeh thats another option Tuan, may need to try some different ballasts, thinking of experimenting with nickjc's spiderlights as well. Was going to try electronic ballasts but they are so expensive..
Tangman, the not "deep" sand bed is also another major concern.
Got a spare maxigrow ballast you can use to test, and a spare spider too that can be rigged up. Let me know when you come down. Acro tip burning sounds a bit suspicious to me and most likely from excess UV from lighting. Had the same prob when I forgot to replace the coverglass on my spotlight unit which has a DE lamp and so lots of UV.
Looks good Craig, do you have some nice wrasse in there or are my eyes playing tricks on me ? If so what are they ?
Hi Marc,
Yes I do have a few wrasse as follows:-
Lightning Wrasse - Big - Yellow and Blue (faults finishs of injured clams by going in from behind)..eeeekkk
Cleaner wrasse - White spot solving miracle
Yellow Finned Wrasse - mainly pink with strangely a yellow fin.
Social Wrasse - Seafighter - placid...very nice fish.
Peacock wrasse.
All get on well together.
Craig.
