Tank Stuff

2620(length) x 595(front to back) x 900(high)
in old money thats - 8'7" x 23" x 36"

The tank is made out of 12mm glass with a double base.

The weir is at the far end of the picture above, the water falls into a glass box which has two 32mm durso standpipes. The water then goes to the sump underneath.

In the cupboard underneath is my RO unit (35gpd) there is also a waste pipe fitted. Never again will I carry a bucket of water!!

The return is an Ocean Runner 6500 and the skimmer pump a 1060. I am using a Beast skimmer until things get going and I have recovered financially.

An IKS looks after
Temp, top up, and two x Aquastar Turbo 3500 pumps for flow.

Over to you......

It's coming along nicely Paul. There's a good growth of coralline.

What are the little anemones in the 11th pic? Not Anemonia I hope :o

Lisa,

I was hoping someone would comment on the anemones.

I have always fed all of the anemones in the tank about once per week with artemia.

This group started from one small white tipped anemone which I moved from one end of the tank to the other.
Quite soon after being moved it divided, one part went behind the rock.
The part that stayed at the front has since divided twice more.

This has happened in the space of about 4 to 5 weeks and it would seem that the move started the process.

Will I be over run ?

Should I eliminate them now?

How much of a problem can they be ?

I have tried to ID these critters.

It would appear (i'm happy to be corrected) that the Anemone Majano varies between green and brown.
The tentacles are bubbled at the tip and the tips could be purple.

These are Brown definatley not bubble tipped and are white at the tips.

Any Anemone gurus out there........

Paul,

They could be Anemonia sp., I'm not 100% sure of it though. However anything that reproduces that quickly rings alarm bells in my mind. Potentially 5 weeks = 4, 10 weeks = 16, 15 weeks = 64....... You could end up with an awful lot of them. :o Anemonia sp. sting your corals and generally make nuisance of themselves and they are hard to get rid of. Peppermints won't eat them and neither will Copperband butterflies, kalk is not that effective either. Of course this type may not be as aggressive as that but it's something to consider at this point.
