Al & I both dive. During the spring/summer we dive around the UK and in the winter fly off to warmer climates.

Only 8 weeks (and counting) till we sped 2 weeks in the Red Sea! If anyone else is in Hurghada between the 12th and 26th of December send us a message and we'll meet in Papa's Bar one evening for a bit of fishie talk :)

I have dived for a few years and anyone who enjoys watching their reef tank and hasn't dived they are missing the best reef tank in the world :D :o !!!

Even if it takes a while to get your head around diving the rewards are fantastic!!!

No aquarium can come near to what I've seen both in this country and abroad. If you've not tried it get out there and do it!!!

I didn't know you could see past the mask in UK waters....

Must say, if anyone of you hasn't tried it, do it.. It is such fun. You get to swim in the largest aquarium you will ever see....

Admittedly I choked a lot on a training dive, but that was because I was laughing so hard about the fish and their antics...

Bit of an aside but will anybody be in Stoney next week? Mrs H and myself are trying to get a couple of days in during the week and it would be great to meet up with any fellow UR members.

Never dived, always seems to be the next thing on the list. First on the list is setting up my new tank, too much bleedin' controversy though on new filtration methods ( sumps, natural filtration, to skim or not to skim, dsb's, bla bla bla !!!!). But, love travelling to warmer climes, and am off to Sharm two weeks today for two weeks of snorkelling and various reef excursions. Have also heard you get to see just as much snorkelling as you do scuba cos the reefs are always in such shallow waters. Having said that, would still love to scuba as IMO reckon you'd get to view a far larger range of sea-life further down, and the whole experience would be far more satisfying.

There are three kinds of people in this world, those that can count and those that can't. :D :D :D

Although snorkelling is great, IMO there's NO experience on earth like scuba.

I did some dives in barbados and in the florida Keys and to be down at 10-15 metres and see a pair of 15" queen angels swim by or to hold a seahorse or to come face to face with a large moray or to see a large cup sponge with a colony of boxer shrimps in or..........

Some of the areas in the uk can be superb for diving especially in winter when the sea is clearer. Diving under Brighton pier is very rewarding especially by the funfair....when those rides go round and round, the amount of money thrown into the sea is amaizing

Just seventeen days and counting until next diving trip to Red Sea. Very concerned at the moment as i've just been told I have pleurisy and hoping that anti biotics can clear it in time.

we are hoping to go to the red sea this chrimbo. probably sharm but maybe hurghada.
snorkelling seems great until you try diving and then you realise just how much you miss when you are floating on the surface. it's the whole 3d immersion thing, when you snorkel after diving you feel strangely detached from what you are seeing.
anyone got any recommendations for winter diving other than the red sea??
cheers alan

Hmm, well, Diving I would say Tobago or the Maldives.

Only check out the weather depending on time of year, Hurricane / Monsoon season respectively...

Tobago theoretically - Manta
Maldives - Whale Shark in Winter with Manta March or so..

Tobago is awesome as a total package though, Maldives is honestly a little boring for me, just glad we ended up diving twice a day with nothing else to do (except when the weather was too rough)

Hi All,

I have not dived for a few year's now, but here is a piccy of the boat that I used to run with my brother out of Brighton in the summer and Spain & Gibraltar in the winter, back in the 90's

We were a live aboard that was mostly chartered from Friday through to the following Thursday, we spent most of the time diving the wreck's of the northern coast of France around Aramanche, the D-Day landing beaches and around the Channel Islands.

Did anyone on here ever come diving with us?

Kira.
