Purpose: Increase Calcium (not balanced)
Source:
- Labpakchemicals

Branded:
-Kent Turbo Calcium is anhydrous calcium chloride.
-Kent Liquid Calcium is a watered down version (of above).

Salifert Coral Calcium and some of the SeaChem products are partly balanced out with other ingredients.

Tuan i thought that the chloride was not good for the tank, and put things out of balance. is this true? :)

I thought that the Kent was "quasi" balanced.....ie that instead of being simply calcium chloride it was a mixture of soluble calcium salts. Thus it wouldn't involve a large boost to chloride, but instead smaller more manageable boosts to other negatively charged ions, roughly in the same proportions as NSW. So it would be a better choice for long-term regular calcium maintenance.

Whereas the simple chloride is okay for occasional, calcium-only rebalances (the need should only arise thru' a bad batch of salt mix).

I thought.....might be another manufacturer, perhaps I am thinking of their alkalinity supplement ?

True!
Unless what you're trying to do is restore the balance ;)

Kim,

Thanks Simon !

Turbo Calcium certainly sounds racier than calcium chloride........

Is there a UK source for the DowFlake 77-80%?

I can't find it on the UK Google search engine! I know there are other calcium chloride substitues but Randy Holmes-Farley has confirmed that this brand is 100% safe and dosen't contain impurities.

I baked some bicarbonate of soda today to convert it to washing soda (to raise Ph as well as Alk). It's great when you can buy products from your local supermarket to keep SW levels in check (wife friendly too) :D

Where on earth can we obtain DowFlake 77-80%? It maybe here but under a different name

Sean, could you explain in more details please. What's the conversion process.. ?

The final stage of the Solvay Process (industrial manufacture of sodium carbonate) is to heat sodium bicarbonate in a furnace to produce sodium carbonate. The balanced formula is 2HaHCO3 => Na2CO3 + CO2 + H20
