Hi yer
I spotted a post from Tuan a little while back talking about adding white vineger to kalk to help saturate the solution a lot more.
I have seen this type of post in the past and assume some have used this technique for quite some time.
Has anybody been able to measure, whether it be scientific or otherwise, the longterm effects on your systems.
I understand the concept but cant help but think that constant use of this method will fluctuate your PH enough to cause numerous problems.

yeah i have always wondered about this, as surely it would also be adding stuffto the tank that you dont want in there?

Why would it fluctuate your Ph more than adding normal kalk... if added correctly?

I'd guess Russ is more worried about the vinegar than the kalk. Yep? Vinegar is just weak acetic acid which is used by most organisms in their metabolic pathways. I guess by adding vinegar you are just giving your bacteria something else to eat. I have never used vinegar and kalk but as it is a fairly weak acid I doubt it would have much effect on pH.

Hi
I'll try to explain what i mean? If you had mixed your kalk two or three times and after measuring your P.H. found your mixture was around 9.0, i would assume that to mix more ro you would'nt get the saturated solution you need to help raise your alk and Ca levels, basically the crap at the bottom is redundent. You would then add a measured amount of white viniger to drop the P.H. enough to disolve the chalky substance which in turn raises the P.H. again. If you had to add a lot of viniger to do this would'nt the viniger that is'nt used up by the kalk go into your setup and after continual use cause some fluctuations in P.H.
Thats a crap way to try and explain it but i think you'll get my drift??????????
