just waiting for the blue ont to open now
Hi daz100
I have the exact same gorgonian/sea whip from one of my local LFS (the yellow one) do you know the species? I can't decide after trawling through all my books what exactly the species is. but I think it's Indonesian, mine opened like that at first but hasn't really opened over the last couple of days how did you get it to open up. I'm assuming it's not entirely photosynthetic and have been trying to feed it, what are you feeding yours? one thing I did notice that the other day when I was adding to my sand bed and the water was cloudy with the sand it went nuts and was really 'fluffy'.
could be that my angel is bothering it or my shrimps keep sitting on it :D
cheers
Carolyn
i also have a yellow and red one that only comes out every 2 days or so
i dont spot feed but every day i put a block of red plankton and 2 blocks of micro plankton i have had the yellow and red one for 2 years and never had a prob with it apart from cleaning cyno from time to time so i thought i would give some different ones a try
sorry i dont know the species of them but they look good whatever they are

Hi Carolyn,
We have several different species of Gorgonians in the shop at the mo including the one's pictured on this thread. We mainly use live Phyto to feed every 3rd/4th day and find that this generally encourages polyps to open. Also gorgonians do like some flow to blow food around them and keep away any algae which could smother them and prevent polyp extenxion.

Lovely gorgonians everyone
Seeing as this is on Gorgornians what are they like for growth/recovery my LFS has a nice coloured one that seems to have good polyp extension but the lower few branchs and its tunks a stripped of polyps would this be alright or does it bode badly for the little chappies...I Love gorgonians they are so common on reefs but very few tanks seem to have them...
Beautiful gorgonians everyone.
Here's a shot of a lil Muricea frag that I got from Keith. It never looks like it changes but I can see from photos that it's approximately doubled in size since I got it (3 months ago). :D

Thought I would share this with you all. It only came in on Thursday and has not had full polyp extension yet but I love the colour.
