Koh Tao

Just wondered if anyones been to Koh Tao & could give me any tips/advise.

May is supposedly very hot there (Nice)..
Also the best time to see Whale Sharks (Even nicer)..

I'll be taking a flight from Kuala Lumpur as I have a wedding to attend on the 14th but will have approx 10 days free from then on... :D

I presume it'll be a flight straight to Koh Samui & a fast boat out to the Island.

Had a look at Crystal Diving schools website & prices look very good at around £10/dive.

Hi Suk,

Myself and tracy went to Koh Tao on a snorkelling trip from Koh Samui about 4 years ago.

Although I was not a reefer then I remember the fish and corals being superb. You will not be dissapointed, it's about 2 hours by fast dive boat from Samui and does get pretty busy during the day. Prices are VERY cheap, but then again most things are in Thailand.

Dived in Koh Samui and Koh Pangan last August. Did not manage to get to Koh Pangan- the other half is not into diving and got fed up of being holed up in the hotel by herself - lucky me!

Make sure you take the fast boat from Samui and plenty of sun cream cos you may end up having bites taken off your peeling skin!

Diving around Pangan & Koh Tao is excellent. So many sites and all so different. Sail Rock and Shark Reef are amongst the best. The variety of corals - both hard and soft - and fishes are just amazing. For reefers it does not get better!

As Cam says its cheap - though I doubt if you can get a diving trip with all the gear for £10. Anyway you wont have to break the bank.

Have been in contact with the manager of Crystal diving & he's recommended taking the Catmaran from Samui.

Sorry for not getting back to this thread, been so busy since I got back.
Anyway, a great time was had & I rented a Sony 5mb digi-cam in housing for a days diving.

I completed my advanced diver course as it was so cheap (£100)
Also managed 18 dives in the six days I spent on the island, managed 4 dives plus a night dive too on one day...... :whistling:

how did you find samui ?....have you been before i first went 7yrs ago and it was the best place on earth ive just been back in may and it has drastically changed ....way too comercialised now , i will not be going back we went to phuket and are going back this septemer this seems to be one of the places that isnt changing ...saying that we dont stay in the tourist parts we stay at bang tao 20mins outa town, there are some peeps there who can take you to some good dive / snoorkel sites ... :D

Hi Fishman,

I only stayed on Samui the night before & the afternoon after my trip to Koh Tao.
What I saw of it in that short while was pretty much the same as my visit to Phukhet a few years ago. I didn't dive from Samui so can't comment on that.
The food was excellent & very cheap too, Singha beer is also quite tasty.
Oh, and for those that haven't tried a traditional Thai massage, you don't know what you're missing! :whistling:
