I stayed in the Tropicana grand oasis last summer and it was very good.It was around a 10 min drive from naama bay(sharm town centre) and had a free shuttle bus.The hotel had its own coral reef area minutes from the rooms and the snorkelling was out of this world(and free). The hotel had lovely swimming pools and the rooms were very clean/tidy and air conditioned. On the downside the alcohol ;) that was included in the all inclusive deal was local stuff, the lager was alright but the rest was poor. The food was perfectly acceptable and the resturaunt was pretty good.A free trip on the shuttle bus downtown in the evening to taste the better alcoholic beverages was great and there are some excellent bars/resturaunts in sharm.A taxi home was cheap as chips around £3/£4.All in all a great holiday.

p.s. do not go on the submarine excursion as it is a pure rip off and you can see much more mins from hotel

hope this helps

Hi,

We have stayed at the Sonesta Beach (not the Sonesta club which is not by the sea), It was excellent, and because it is right at the end of Namma bay you get loads more reef to snorkel on. Also stayed at the Coral Bay Resort, this is a 10 min taxi ride from Namma Bay and is also very good. Only down side to all the hotels is the breakfast. It is very 'continental', and although there is plenty of choice it is not up to much. There is no bacon of course as they don't eat pork out there. Evening buffet meals are very good if you go half board, which is not a bad idea as it is quite expensive to eat out there.

Both hotels are of a very high standard, as are most out there and exceptionally clean. I would recommend you get out there ASAP!!!

Cheers,

Cam.

Howdy folks,
Am writing this from an internet cafe in naama bay in Sharm el sheik, 35 degrees & marvellous.
I'm staying at the Coral beach Tiran which I think might be the one Cam mentioned above as its about 10 mins taxi drive away.
I agree with all the above except the 'expensive eating out' bit. I have literally just come out of a nice restaurant right on the sea front. my girlfriend and I had a really nice meal and a few beers for 14 quid!

Am off to try diving tomorrow, but you still see loads just snorkelling. If you haven't been then I would thoroughly recommend it.

There is a god and teletext is his name.......right..... 12 more days to go.

Hi Chris , I've been to Sharm a couple of times and in my opinion there are two very good hotels if your into snorkelling . They are 4/5* so not cheap . The hilton sharm waterfalls and the ritz carlton are based on the cliff top on Ras um Sid with lift down to a private beach. Each has a platform over the reef to the drop of so you can snorkel on one of the popular dive sites as often as you like . !0 minutes by taxi to Naama bay. Well worth the extra cash. If you decide to stay somewhere else its worth getting a taxi to the same place as there is also a public beach next to the private ones, where you can pay a couple of quid to get on . It gets pretty crowded though and there's no platform over the reef so you can only reach the drop off at certain times when it's possible to snorkel over the reef.
Cheers Mick
