Tomorrow the tank is going to be drilled and the weirs and straps fitted.
Then the plumbing begins  and the 2 week wait before I can put water in the tank :(
Sorry about all the pics I just wanted to show people as I am now getting excited
And so you should looks a beast! Just watch out for the rats running around!
Eddy
don't apologise for all the pics, i'm sure i'm not the only one who likes to see as many as possible. gives a real feel of progress looking through all those. keep us posted on the weirs.
how did danny get out or is he still in there now???
:whistling: Nice going :)

oh to have the patience/money missus to have a tank this big... <_<
Good luck to ya mate.
more pics.
Looking good - I see Danny is in action again!
One thing - have you got some extractor fans installed near the tank? That looks like a lot of water to be indoors so damp will be a major problem.
Craigg the tank is 10' x 4' x 2 1/2' :D
Tuan, over the weekend I will be fitting 2 extractors over the tank and also 1 from the sump area to try and cut down on the moisture. With the sumps the water volume works out to be around 1000 US gallons  Evaporation should be fun
10' x 4' x 2 1/2'
OMG! :o
Another worrying question - is there enough clearance between the top of the tank and the ceiling?
BTW - are you lightly built, 8ft tall and have very long arms?

ahh.. thats where danny has been ;)
nice looking tank, good luck with it and keep us all posted
Hi Tuan
There should be enough room above the tank, as for the lightly built, 8 feet tall long arms well no!
I am short, fat and am going to struggle but thats half the fun :D
I am having the closed loops and weir where they can be reached so that should help a lot. If I do need to reach something in the middle of the tank I will throw one of the kids in.
hi that going to be one hell of a tank m8 nice one. i use my kids as you said lol
Hi TGFIREFLY
Would that happen to be a Graseby MS2000 syringe driver on the wall!!
I have 2 Harvard twin fuses on my tank.
( I work for Graseby so I have seen a few)
at least it is being put to good use :D
:o Amazing mate,
cant wait too see how it progresses.
Stuart
Cool, keep us updated :-) and good luck.
wow wow wow
thats a big tank mate... going to look just great! :D

Superb!I love it when a plan comes together.
Regards Tony
Not yet :(
Hopefully next weekend, I have been slacking a bit with the pipe work (also been on holiday). I now only have to connect the up the sequence pumps and I am finished. Then I will see how many joints are not sealed properly
I have put in 2 extractor fans above the tank and one from under the sump to try to keep the moisture down.
So the next step after leak testing will be getting the 600lbs of sand  for the base of the tank.
I will post some pics once it has water in it.

Ouch.
When you asked the wife if she wanted an indoor pool, I don't think that is what she had in mind..... ;)
Keep the piccies coming...

Next the mechanical filter.
http://www.ultimatereef.net/uploads/pumpsand%20filter.JPG
This pic shows the home made sort of dursto (no.1) in 63mm pipe with a tap on the top so I can control the gap size and hopefull quiet down the noise a bit.
no.2 is the return from the sump
no.3 is feed for the closed loops (still in need of a strainer)
http://www.ultimatereef.net/uploads/dursto.JPG
next
no.1 is the 63mm feed for the closed loops.
no.2 is the 50mm return from the sequence for closed loops
no.3 is the main 50mm pipe running the full length of the tank feeding the 6 32mm returns to the tank.
no.4 is a 32mm tank return for the closed loops
no5 is the bottom of the dursto feeding the sump
no.6 is the tank return

Mods any chance of moving this post to 'members tanks' so it dosent get lost again ?
Thanks
Stuart
:o err thats a bloody monster
Crikey you planning on housing a Shark... now that would be fun a white or black tip reef shark.. completly reef shafe well during the daylight hours .. :D
well actually yes, but only a small one.
I have an Epaulette shark which will be living in there with all my tangs. There will be large soft corals also not sure on sps depends on water quality.
I have had the shark for about a year in my 7x2x2 and she is happy and does not bother the corals at all. I was concerned that she might knock over some but shes very carefull climbing over the rocks. The down side is can't have a clean up crew as they would be a quick snack. I also have a snowflake moray :D with bloody sharp teath :(
Pipe work is now finished! :D
Thanks to Marc spending the best part of 5 hours here today giving me a hand.
Cheers Marc
http://www.ultimatereef.net/uploads/Marc.JPG
Water testing will commence tomorrow, lets hope I remembered to seal all the pipe work or the room will be a paddling pool
Bloody hell what's the world coming too when we let rif-raf like the above in our houses
LOL....thanks for posting that Callum! not
Hey Marc
You know I said on the phone that the pipe work was holding water, well, the tank was 4" from being full (8 hours filling) and a few very small drips have appeared. :o
Its on the pipe work I did. :D
All the water is circulating well now but there are still a couple of dripps
will post some pics later

Stuart
Sorry I have been busy. I have be cutting out the leaking pipes and replacing them.
Will be refilling tonight (another 8 hour wait) Hopefully this time there will be no drips. If that is the case then in with the sand and then try to get aprox 900 gallons of RO  although the sand and the rocks should displace a bit.
Pics will be posted when leaks stop! :D

Hey callum.
How did you get on with the leaks ?
Stuart
Finally got there. :D
The last bits to sort out were 4 tank connectors at the back of the tank over the top of my sump that were leaking. I finally resorted to somehow climbing into my 5 foot sump so I could reach the nuts then re siliconed them all back into place. I thought I was going to have to call the firemen out to get me out of the sump but eventually managed to get out
My wife found it very funny!!! That is not something I will not be doing again and I recommend that no one else tries it either.
I have filled the tank 3 times now will tap water so if there is a hosepipe ban it is probably my fault. ;)
I will be hanging the lights tonight and may put the sand in, then its just a case of getting a bit of RO
Pics will follow later
first time i have looked at this one. well impressed.
how much you spent so far??
shaun
Hi Shaun
so far about £2200
Main tank £1100 front and 1 end is starfire. (all 15mm with double base)
Sequence pumps x 2 £360
Wall £200
RSJ free!!
Sump (5x2x2) £40
Sand £260
Pipe work & connectors £200
Already have the lights, live rock, trickle tower, 2 skimmers
Still need possible a couple of 500 gallon sand filters but am still thinking about that one.
Just don't tell the wife!!!!!!! Perhaps she won't notice the tank! :whistling:
Little bit more progress. I now have 400 gallons of RO in the tank, the rest will be going in tomorrow. Hopefully it will be warm enough by the weekend so I can start to stock it. :D
Pics soon I promise

is it still £2.50 for a swimming lesson or is it extra for an instructer hehehehehehe omg thats hugeeeeee keep us posted bet its going to be stunning!!!
Its a bit to cold to swim in at the moment 70 deg. By the weekend it should be warm enough but there will be a 2 1/2 moray in there by then so swimming could be dangerous.
The tank is now full and I have added 100kg of salt. the salinity is currently 1.020 so I need to add a bit more.

Danny has a large 1000 litre container (220 gallons) on in the back of his van. I only live about 7 miles from the shop so he did 2 trips each evening. It only took about 5 mins to pump across the full 220 gallons using the huge ITT marlow pump he has.

Cheers Marc, its fine to put your hands in as long as there in no food in the water otherwise the eel might have a bite. (At least thats what I told Marc as he was leaning over the tank to place the rock where I could not reach  )
The Sharks are harmless you can pick them up and stroke then and they are not bothered in the slightest.

The sand is CaribSea Aragamax Sugar Sized Sand, I used 20 x 30lb bags.
It clouded the tank for a few days but the skimmer helped to clear it. I probably skimmed about 15 gallons in the end before it was reasonably clear.

I am reliably informed that it is a vlamingi tang (Naso family like the unicorns)
Here are a few pics I have taken this evening
The tank now has 600lbs of sand and just over 300 kg of living rock.

It works out at about 1 gallon a day incl the bit that is skimmed out, I have 2 extractor fans above the tank and one under the sump venting outside so there is very little humidity in the room.(thankfully)
