Just beautiful!!!!!!!!-----------My Lagoon (http://community.webtv.net/swt1968/MyLittleOceanReef)
It's great to see a beautiful ecosystem tank. Is it purist ecosystem? ie. no skimmer or other filtration technology.
Very nice Des...any chance of the specs and a full tank shot please ?
impressive stuff - would love to see more pics and more details on what maintenance etc is done on it...

Hi,
Currently in the process of setting a 6x2x2 tank as an ecosystem would appreciate more pics and specs etc and what sort of maintenance regime you follow.
Superb looking specimens! Great inspiration

VERY Nice !!!
Some more details pleeze  .
Des, whereabouts do you live? I've just changed over to a MM system and its working quite well so far. Is there any chance of more system specs?
Desong, so what you think were're gonna let you get away with posting 2 such gorgeous pics and not give us more details of the setup etc
I reckon there must be a skimmer on there and he just doesn`t want to post the full spec ;)
more like a sales pitch... <_< :P
Sorry guys, been very busy of late - big trade show next week, shortly followed by Instant Ocean Seminar...
I'm currently trying to build a website to list more info regarding the tank. Most of the questions I've received are similar i.e. specs, maintenance etc. So I thought a web page with lots of pictures & possibly an FAQ would be sensible.
Apologies again for not replying sooner, I appreciate the comments.
Regards,
Des
Here's the new but only half-done site...

Very interesting Des, another question---How much mud would be required for a 2m tank?
WOW-WEE!!!!
SO BEAUTIFUL!!
NICE ONE!

Outstanding Display
Looking forward to the specs and housekeeping techniques
Im interested in how the credit goes to miracle mud, i have seen equally as beautifull tanks at around 1600l that used a sump growing caulerpa but with no "miracle mud"
Seems to me the system may be equally as succesfull without the mud.
Maybe thats just me, VERY nice tank desong credit to YOU!

Obviously the fact that miracle mud is used - and that he tank is successfull can be used as a selling point for said mm.
I dont think that it is implied that the only way to go is miracle mud.
There is many options and permutations that make a reef tank work , i think this is what many of us find attractive about the hobby.
I believe many people have proven that a tank can be equally successfull using another substrate as the "mud bed" and even just by reducing skimmimg or removing it has also caused changed responses in a tank.

Valley Boy, I think the answer is 27 kg of MM
Outstanding
Can I get one of those 'When I grow up stickers' with a picture of your tank on the front of it Des?
I'll put the sticker on my aquarium cabinet :D :D

according to the 'specifications' page on the website their 350 gallon system uses 27kg of MM.
i love the results from the stuff on my 80 gallon system but to buy 27kg's of the stuff.....
:o :o :o
gorgeous tank though!

How much is 27kg of this mud
on Aquatics Warehouse Site
4.5Kg = £48.33
so 6 x 4.5 = 27 Kg
6 x 48.33 = £289.98
Seems a lot to me especially<sp> when you have to replace 1/2 every 2 years
based on that price add 144.99 (per two year) or 72.49(and a half :P ) to your yearly running costs.
That said I would really like to set one up
Oh and you don't shell out for a skimmer or Kalk
Cheers

I can confirm first hand how stunning this tank is!!!
Unfortunately when I went to pick up my cube system off Des I forgot to take my camera so all I got were 2 pics on my phone. This system was unlike any MM setup I have seen so far in the respect there are no bits of debris in the water - not too bad but enough to show on pics (a problem I am struggling to overcome so far) and the coral's in it are simply stunning!!!
My plating hydnophora is one of the babies from this system believe it or not and it is easily 12" diameter now.
Just to have a look at the vast mud bed and the sheer amount of algae is enough to make you say WOW  let alone the rows of lighting and the sheer size of the tank. Both myself and Drivewayreef felt very fortunate to see the tank as AFAIK not many of the public have had the opportunity.
BTW Des, the little cube is still doing well, everything has bedded in exceptionally well for a 6 month old setup - did you know you gave me a 16" long eunice worm??? fantastic creature but ive not seen it since it went in.
cheers
leigh :D
