I take it the 3,5 is back to front I love that  It looks lovely
Tim
watch the door handle on the back of the door when swung open might hit your new tank and you dont want to do that do you
Nice tank Ducati916
Whats the advantages of acrylic over glass ?
Cheers
cheers
yep the door handle hits the stand not the tank, got a stopper to fit, 3.5 is front to back. the advantages of acrylic are, much stronger much lighter and clearer than glass.
watch out for more pics, just drilled it got loads to do today!!!!
H
Cheers i always wondered.
Best of luck and keep us posted with pics on this thread so i dont have to go hunting for them. ;)

See you tomorrow...
always fancied an acrylic for my next tank but keep reading the old story of scratches etc. would be nice to see how you get on with this.
did you get a quote for the same size in starphire glass at all?
craig
Nice looking tank.
If you don't mind me asking, how much did it cost you?
Phl
this is hard work
added some extra supports to the stand run the pipework, 2.5 inch outlet from tank and 1inch return from sump all hard pipework with valves, now filling with mains water to test system for problems before we drain it and ad the R\O
heres some pics
that's huge! If you don't mind me asking, how much does a tank like that cost?

I'll try to answer the price question but I make be way out.
my acrylic 72x30x30 from neptune cost £780 about 2yrs ago so I could guess that it is somewhere around the 1K+ mark for a tank that size...
Ducati what thickness of acrylic did you go for? Tank looks stunning mate
I had a choice of 12mm or 15mm, I choose the 15mm thick :D

PS Chris of Neptune makes super tanks, top quality

soooo jealous... i'd love a tank that big. but my house is just too small
no fair :(
  what a mission but its now done, up to 3am this morning filling the new tank with R\O, ran all the plumbing and wired the lights and skimmer in etc.
got up this morning and started the change over pumped half the water from the old tank into the new one filled a container and put the corals in, also filled up a second container with live rock, pumped more water in to the new tank then added the L\R followed by the corals then all the fish, and finaly topped up with the last of the old water.
 Job done
heres some pic's, all the fish and corals are settling in and seem fine
the cost of the new tank was £1185 delivered but got a bit off the price i think
corals in container can you spot the puffer???
fish and corals starting to come out :D
ducati 916
what did you make the tank frame/cabinet out of and i hope you dont mind me asking this but how much do you think the cabinet has cost you by the time youve put doors on it etc? are you going to make some sort of lid? if so how
:thanx: nick
Wow!!! :o  , we want a bigger house :( .
Duc, can you tell us what skimmer that is and what lights your using?
Looks amazing
Hi

FANTASTIC!!!!!
sooooo bloooody envious!! :(
I like you way you have overlapped the wood at the top of the stand. Makes a good strong frame without having to be too good a carpenter.
I'll have to remember that one.
thanks
also all the weight sits on endgrain (vertical lenghts) witch can support huge weights, theres also a vertical centre brace behind the electrics
Looks great
Can we have some more shots of the puffer please - it's a beauty :)
thanks
Anna
Just out of interest, will you be adding more live rock?
Hmmmm...that aqua-scaping looks all wrong.....reckon you need to start all over again.........
hehe :P just kidding as iam jealous......the clarity of the acryclic is soooo noticable even in a photo...
got any scratches in it yet ?? :whistling:
paul.
Very nice... Wonder what a similar size with low lead glass front in that size would cost.
Love the front to back depth... Definately something I want next time round...
Tim
what would it have cost in starphire glass i wonder ??
paul.
no idea what it would cost in glass, we wanted acrylic for the strenght and light weight, as we are moving again in the next 4 to 5 yrs

ducati ,fantastic looking tank mate, are there any problems with drilling lots of holes into an accrylic tank (closed loops etc) .Seeing this tank is swaying me towards acrylic ,soooo clear
i didnt drill lots of holes as im using streams etc, but acrylic is much stonger than glass so as long as you dont go mad with the black and decker there should be no problems, i done some more to the cabinet today fitted 3 doors and sides, cant make my mind up wether to bevel the doors with a router or keep them flat and minimal looking, also dont no wether to stain or paint them, there made from 18mm mdf.
Ducati916 - thanks for the piccy of the puffer it's really purty :) the tank looks amazing :o
Anna
thanks
i keep looking at it and thinking theres about 80kg of live rock in there from my old 6x2x2 and its hardly covering the bottom, gona stick another 20kg in i think and build up the back left corner were theres two 18 inch wide Leathers, and leave
plenty or swimming space for the fish, i must say they do seem very happy with the extra space, ive never seen them so lively :D
Ducanti916
I may of missed it some where, but could you say again, how did you go about plumbing the Deltec 703 in? Does it flow direct from the tank overflow threw the 703 then run straight from that to the rest of the sump, or you using a pump kit from sump 1st compartment threw the 703 then just flows back, maybe to a second compartment of the sump? Not sure how your sump was set out. I’m thinking of adding one the second way.
Mark
Hi
1060 from sump to U/V to skimmer, skimmer returns via 2.5inch pipe to other end of sump near main return pump

Why have you plumbed the uv before the skimmer ?
So it can skim out the dead stuff?
no real reason just always done it like that on my old tank never had any problem's, also only need 1 pump for 2 job's.

Hi Ducati916
Your name must mean own a Ducati motorbike..... :o
Just wondering if you ever used an Ozonizer on the skimmer? I have herd they work magic on the deltec 703’s, preferably with a probe but if not then in moderation. I’m thinking of using this method instead of the UV light. What do you think?
Mark
Love the last pic. looks so colourfull !!! There is no way you would think its been set up a week or so.
have you any pics of the puffer ? how big is he ? looks a monster !
:thanx:
Stuart
Thanks for the kind words, i no what you mean it dosent look like a week old tank, but it is only the tank thats new most of the stock is old, ive also took in a pair of 3 foot ribbon eels, ill try to get a picy of them soon.
i dont use an Ozonizer, i try to keep my system quite basic really, the 703 is a superb skimmer i wouldnt be with out it.
the puffer is about 9 inches and a reall nice fish, eats a lot thou!!!!!!!

Hi Ducati ,can i ask did you get a quote from aquarium masters in dagenham for the tank? also are there any resrictions in the top? also do the MH affect the top section? sorry for all the Qs ,just really love the look of your tank ,stunning! am seriously considering acrylic for my upgrade.

Nice one Ducati.
Two questions:-
1. Do you have any noise problems with your overflow pipe?
2. Are your halides mounted on wood on the strength bars?
Cheers
ok, there's no restriction on the top of the tank well no more than glass, the mh are siting on 4x2 timber's and dont hang over the braces, do get some noise from the pipes, but not really a problem as we are used to it and having 4 dogs means our house isnt quiet often anyway.
aquarium masters yep spoke to them and not impressed, was told that WE DONT QUOTE OVER THE PHONE send us an email, so i did and never got a reply they need to take a customer relations course as the guy had a bit of an attitude, anyway they dont make tanks themselves they get them from neptune, go to Neptune direct ask for Chris he is very helpful i had a couple of long chats with Chris before i ordered and he wasnt pushy and gave an instant quote over the phone, the tank turned up on time and even on a Saturday, if your local your welcome to come over and have a look.
Hows the eels doing ?
Stuart
you didnt see my post then, the blue one killed the black one a few days ago, saw him being attacked got him into the sump but died the next day, the blue ones ok they both were hand feeding aswell.
H
:o :(
No never seen the post,
Sorry to hear that, i think there so cool
Good luck with the blue one
