View Full Version : Post Your Angel Angel Pics
I remember whenI first started the fish store always told me never to put a large angel in a reef, they always eat polyps. When I found this site I realised many do, so I gave it a go. I'm Just curious as to what angel species people are keeping in their reefs these days, so come on lets see 'em. I know there's someone out there with an asfur and another guy with a rock beauty so come on get posting, dwarves too get 'em up. Fire balls to emperors share 'em with the group!

http://www.reefsuk.com/member_images/0464.JPG
this was when i had her for about a month 6 months ago. she has really fattened up since then. ive been feeding her on ON 1, 2 prome reef, brine shrimp. And the kent pellets, herbivore and carnivore. Oh and some of the brine shrimp direct flakes, the deli, the garlic and the spirulina and kelp.
Its quite cool as i recently got some little fingernail sized domino damsels, and anytime she goes near them they go and hide in their chosen acro which they call home now :)

Some beautiful fish guys.
Jevs, found it really interesting comparing the markings on your emperor to mine, yours has much closer banding than mine does, I wonder if that will have any reflection in what their adult colouration will come through like. Must be some sort of a regional variation perhaps?
Any more? ;)

Gill, thats a nice angel, Have you had it from a juvenile? What colour are juvenile scribbles I've never seen large ones, do they have two colour forms like a lot of the other larger angel species?
Love the emperors too guys.

lots of regal angels in this thread, this surprises and interests me, Bob Fenner says they are a no go, but he is in america my lfs has one from the red sea (we are of course closer to the red sea) at the moment, if it were feeding, how do you guys rate its chances for survival?

Tis a good point. I often believe what I read in those books, but he also says don't keep Mandarins unless you enjoy killing beautiful fish - not so hard to keep now with the advent of Refugiums...
Is there a decent up to date European based Marine book?

Hickers,
They do seem to be becoming more common in reef tanks, I've had mine less than a month but he feeds really well on just about anything I put in the tank. Brine, krill and squid are some of the more common foods it eats. Also takes the Ocean nutrition angel food as well as the SFBB variety. For the 1st time last night I saw him eat some flake food but only a small amount of the algea based variety by Ocean nutrition. I took mine home form the shop the day it arrived with us, it's an indo pacific variety..about 1" 1/2 - 2" total. IME smaller specimens are easier to get onto the food. Whether the fish is getting all the nourishment it needs remains to be seen..time will tell no doubt!
Maybe you have come across this already over on Reefcentral, The Regal Angel thread (http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=389107)
Here's the new addition to my tank, being acclimitised, he's going into hiding at the moment, so this is the only pic :)
katsura, what is that.
Wow.
Craig
Hi Craig,
She is a Paracentropyge multifasciatus. Common name is the Multi-barred angel.
http://fishbase.org/Summary/SpeciesSummary...e=multifasciata (http://fishbase.org/Summary/SpeciesSummary.cfm?ID=5666&genusname=Centropyge&speciesname=multifasciata)
Pretty rare import from deeper waters of the pacific and quire shy.
There's 3 species currently under the Genus Paracentropyge, there's also P.venustus and the ultra rare P.boylei (that changes hand for nearly 40000 dolalrs int he USA sometiems <_< )
this is a good refrence guide:

Everyone,
Great Angelfish. These great photographs are huge motivation for saving faster for my tank. I look forward to posting my photographs in the hopefully not too distant future.
Mantis,
How long have you had your multicoloured angelfish? Is it well behaved? It is a stunning fish that is on my wish list, but had been put off by reports that it nibbles clams and corals. Any more photographs would be much appreciated. Did you get it from Oasis? I have seen them in there before.
Cheers
Rob
Rob,
it was a bit of an impulse buy really as at the time i thought i've got to have that fish, it was the only one in the shop and had been there for about 2 weeks. i got it from A Drop In The Ocean which is in Stretford.
i placed it in my main tank but it got hassled for an hour by my Emperor tang and my Lemon damsel. took it out as wasnt going to let this happen and placed it in my temporary SPS tank. so far as i'm aware it hasnt touch anything nor has it nipped my maxima clam also. only time will tell if he changes but its like most angels they have there own feeding tendancies. i try to feed a little at a time rather than say 2 feeds per day.
i've had him for a week now, been to Oasis many a time but never seen one in there. how much were they going for?
craig
Some fantastic pics guys, nice to see some unusual ones too.....
Theres still plenty who haven't posted yet! :P
Nick :thanx:
Craig,
Cheers for the information. I think the one in Oasis was going for about £90. If you do not mind me asking, how much did you pay for yours? I have not been to 'A Drop in the Ocean', would you recommend it and do they have a website?
Rob
ive been to A drop in the ocean a few times and would definately recommend them, very helpful and friendly staff... who are willing to go out of their way to help you... And they always have quite unusual fish as well as some of the more "ordinary"
Rob,
it was advertised for £69 but they had a notice up for another one (which was sold) for £65, so i ended up getting it for the latter.
it was my first time in there so i thought it was quite good, a bit like SMA with ref to fish (although not as many) but not so much in the corals (it might be just me as i'm going all out SPS) but i would recommend them
craig
Can't believe there are no Coral Beauties on this thread! Here's mine to make up for this scandalous omission :D
I know i've already posted but i've just been staking out the tank trying to get some decent pictures, when suddenly the blue face went all photogenic on me. So I thought I'd share these with you...........
Nick
Let me introduce the new kid on the block too, this little guy must be about 3/4 of an inch, appologies for the pic quality on this one, he's just so into everything he never keeps still for a moment.

beautiful blue face Nick :)
I would have one if i didn't think it would grow too big for my tank (5 foot) and eat all my xenia

Agree with Gilly regarding the lack of Coral Beautys :D heres mine..
Was told of this thread when i posted my earlier one on what large angels could go in a reef tank.
I'm amazed at what fantastic fish some of you guys have.
My fave. of all these is the Scribbles Angel.
Anybody know more about them ? Size ? Do they change colour? Anyone got more pics ? :)
