Hi Tony. Great pics of your tank m8 i like the aquascaping nice looking corals as well. What size is the tank and how long has it been running. Eric.
Absolutely stunning tank
oohhh that I like.
Well done
Craig
5x2x2 tank with a MM sump running about 8 months now, using triple 250W MH 10K BLV bulbs supplimented with actinics..
As you can see, I started to scrape off the corraline from the back wall, its a very hard job, dunno if I'll continue or if I should just let it grow?

NO water changes yet... wow shocking isn't it :o
I don't get any scum on top of the water , Im fairly carefull with feeding, I feed with a watchfull eye and don't over feed... I did worry recently when I increased my stock by a CBB, scarlet hawkfish and pair of flame angels in one go, I reckon the tank was already well stocked but I got STD and bought 4 fishes, so to easy the load I bought a Tunze comline skimmer, its only rated at 50 or so gallons and I only have it running for a few hours a day, it doesnt remove much , but I like the idea of it being there just in case, I'm watch the tank & caulerpa carefully and all seems well. The nitrates & phosphates are zero by the salifert kits and I only have to clean the tank glass every 3-5 days, so I must be doing something right.

I removed the coralline from the back wall with a kent scraper with metal blade, its very hard going and you have to be carefull not to knock bits off the sps's...
Recently I bought a hobby jumbo scraper, it uses blades and is the magnetic type, its the dogs wotsits. It glides though the coralline , green algae , and the stubburn lime green algae on the front and side glass with ease... Infact its quite therapeutic...
far better than the magfloat I also have..
I'd use it on the back glass if I could safely get to the outside back of tank.

Great looking tank,as regards to the corraline its just a personal choice,i myself like to see it on rear of tank.Regarding the MM Eco system, purists would say to run this without the use of a skimmer.I am just in the process of setting up a 6"x2"x2.5" tank with a 54"x15"x18" sump dedicated to refurgium using a MM Mud system.
Allthough initially i will run system without the use of a skimmer,i fully intend to place one in as i increase stocking of corals and fish. What we have to remember is many of these methods esspecially the eco system are still in there infancy and if you talk to people on the american sights who have been running these systems above 12 months or more, many are now adding skimmers as safety measures. When i say skimmers i dont mean huge skimmers, just adequate for your system. One guy who took this purist approach had been running his system for 18 months with great success and then over the next few months desaster struck his tank when he added just one more fish,He lost 50% of his sps.He since placed a skimmer in his tank added carbon for a 2 week period and things now look fine.
He used a good analoge when summing things up. "He said how many of us out there would travel down the motorway with faulty brakes and wearing no seat belts"You might get away with this but why take the chance.
Sorry for this long winded answer, just my take on things.

Judging by your pics it's well worth the effort. I'll have to get my scraper out and make a start on mine.
