room being painted out
Keep the pics coming...there are three big tanks getting shown on this BB at the moment and can I say that all three (ALAN, BIG CAT & CARGO) are all an inspiration.
I have just ordered a 6x2x3 but was very tempted to get a 9x3x4...I had prices all worked out but chickened out at the last minute and decided to walk before I run.
I have only been keeping marines for a couple of years but can say that they do become a part of your life.
I am only 21 years old but hope that when I gain some of the experience shown by other reefers on this site I will be able to compete (wrong choice of word I know) with the 3 big ones being previewed at the moment.
Gonna be stunning Alan.
Keep up the good work mate.

so we had a quick change of plan and had a titanium ring made to sit on the bottom of the 7ft sump tank this is connected to a combi boiler which is connected to a heat controler in the tank, very simple tank temp falls controler turns on boiler back up to correct temp few pics of heat ring

Thanks for posting, and please update us every step of the way.
P.S. I have scoured this thread and it seems that unless I missed it, we are still in the dark as to the intetions for this tank, is it going to be a reef, or fish system?

just found this thread, from when i saw the steel beam and brick collum in the house i thoght this guy was a bit excentric, then i see hes building an extension to house the sump....madness.
Then i see the hole in the wall and thought it was going to be a tank in there, only to see the sump thinking it was the tank?
Only to find the tank was bigger than my CAR!!!!
its late so i skimmed through it but will deff check this out

HI ALAN

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK
POOLER ( NICK )
absolutley beautiful. can't wait to see more pictures.
OK, just got done reading the entire 16 pages. Even had to take a break half way through it to get a sandwich and a esperesso. Someone just sent me a link to this and what can I say that hasn't been said already. Simply amazing. I thought my new tank ( you can see it in this link (http://www.reeffrontiers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5253) ) was big until this guy's tank.    Just a few things I can't tell very well from the pictures though:
-Is this glass or acrylic? It does look like low iron glass, but I cannot even begin to wonder how you got a 17ft long single sheet of glass. What thickness is it?
-You have this monstruosity of a tank and you are going to use these punny little skimmers? Tell me a little more about this.
-Are you going to put a chiller? I am not familiar with the weather conditions of where you live, but with as much lighting as you would need there to light up that tank I would think heat would be an issue.
Simply fantastic man.
thats one great setup, cant wait for future pics.
Simply Amazing!!!! Can't wait to see the next batch of photos!!!!!!

 This is truely amasing i must say ! Nice work all along the project....
Maybe i missed it but :
- What kind of light to you intend to run on the main display.
- Do you have plans for livestock, i mean where to get it from at a ok price. You could emty 3 LFS and that tank wouldnt even be fully stocked, so maybe you should considder to do your own personal import 1 or 3 times ??

Absolutely insane...
I was just referred to this thread, and by god... this is a massive undertaking.
I salute you!
Alan...
Looks to me the words http://www.ultimatereef.net/uploads/3_3_6.GIFgetting around the globe about a obscene size new Reef tank project...going on in sunny Wales...
Guess how busy you're going to get replying to the many questions thrown at you from now on...let alone finding the time building this monster...
Once this gets splashed around on places like RC mate and other bulletin boards world wide…International stardom is upon you...You will never look back...http://www.ultimatereef.net/uploads/23_28_116.gif and http://www.ultimatereef.net/uploads/4_17_2.GIF
Really nice see your little helper enjoying the moment too... :D
Just amazing...and look forward to the next batch of photos...soon I hope...
Mark... :)
Feeling really rather depressed now, as I am scaling DOWN my 75 gal  :(
Seriously mate, a project of epic proportions, and I'm sure, a dream for every other reefer IN THE WORLD!!
What sort of flow are you aiming for? (mines 35x turnover, for yours thats more than 1/2 million lph!!!)
Thankyou for sharing this with us, and good luck with the rest of the build.
Kudos to you, I wait with baited breath for whats to come

Well Done Al-----getting those pictures up at last-----
Just found this and been reading like mad.
I really am lost for words..... truly ....
But can i ask a question ??????
What type of lights are you fitting? whats the total wattage ( in kilowatts )

hi shultz
no probs on the water change m8 I have a 6 x 2 x 2 tank and will be changing that amount every other week
hi nick
no probs there m8 when we are all calmed down you are more than welcome
cheers alan
hi nrplow
thanks m8
hi t-bone
more pics on way
More pics tonight?
hi dgasmd
just seen your tank amazing setup lot of planing and hard work gone in there m8
a credit to you
my main tank is made of acrylic 25mm thick
the skimmers do the job fine, at mo I have 2 on the system with another one on the way so that will give me a total of 3 on my system, the reason I went for the 3 is I can close one down for maintenance and the other two can carry on working or if one was to brake down this was my only reason for 3 rather than one big one
keeping the tank at a level temperature is a bit of a prob where ever you are I think, over here at mo we have one hot and two cold,
so at this moment in time I am installing two air conditioning units one in the main room and one in the filter room they will heat as well as cool so I can keep the rooms to a level temperature so I think that should help a bit and a few fans to come on when the lights are on
:thanx: m8
alan
