Well, just wanted to share with some people the construction process of my new 750g tank. It will house SPS and some fish. Very much in the crude stages of progress, but I am getting there. Hopefully in the next weel I will be able to accomplish a lot since I am off from work. Constructive criticism is always welcomed

That looks awsome

what are the blue bits on the end of the piping in the tank, blowing the water out. Are these just to make the water more restricted and come out more perefuly in a small section?

very nice.

But whats the story with all the branch rock? Why not big bits of live rock?

I think the blue bits may be eductors.

Nice. Big!

Yes, they are. I cut them in half so they would not be so high. Then, put the rock over it. It allows for a lot of dark areas for other things to grow, it allows for hiding places for the fish, and it allows for lower flow areas without detritus accumulation for invertebrates like shrimp and others to go and nest in.

Yes, those are eductors. The act like venturis in that when supplied with a very good amount of pressure they increase the velocity of the water coming out at the end and draw about 5 times as much volume from around them. They in term increase flow tremendously, but they need a pretty good pressure rated pump to achieve this. They are mostly used in hatcheries and fisheries, but a lot of people have been using them with great success in reef tanks. I ahd them in my previous 360g tank and they worked very well. They are on the return from the sump.

In my previous tank I had nothing but bigger rock. Despite of how well I did the aquascaping, some of the fish had a harder time going through it. I decided to make the aquascaping veyr porous this time around. I creates tons and tons of larger holes for fish to go through. It also creates more crevices for me to palce the corals. The major down side to this is that is does not go a long way in terms of pounds needed.

Thanks for the nice comments. Now, go back to your tanks and prepare some nice frag packs to send to the other side of the pond  :thanx:
