Since my last post i have had problems in the reef. I have not lost corals but the blue sponge I had died whilst I was away working, taking most fish with it, including my emp. angel and purple tang :(

Since then I have been slowly adding to the reef. mainly with softies. The tank is now beginning to look how I imagined. Have also started to use STM to source my coral, thik this makes a big difference, great choice of healthy coral.

Specs as follows;

Tank 4x2x2
Skimmer - Deltec MCE600
Lighting - 8 T5's @54w. 4 Actinic and 4 white. 12 hours of actinics and 9 hours of whites. 1100 - 2300
Circulation - 4 Maxijet 1200's
Filtration - Approx 35 Kilo's LR, Fluval 304 as a Rowa chamber

Fish -
2 percs
1 Yellow Tang

Inverts-
2 x Cleaner Shrimps
1 Reef Lobster
3 Mithrax crabs
30+ red legs
30+ turbo's

Coral-
4 Toadstoals
2 Pulse
1 green Xenia
1 green 'octobubble'
1 pussey coral
1 LTA nenny
various zooanthids emerging from the LR

Any comments much appreciated,

Ta,

Will

Thanks for the comment. The sand is crushed coral sand which my Blue Cheek keeps nice and clean :)

Hi Superblades,

Nice set-up!

Noticed you have a blue-streak sandsifting goby Valenciennea strigata, keep an look out on it as they like to swim high up the water column before off loading their mouthful of sands. This, I find will stress out the corals placed on the lower part of your tank.

Personally, I have kept 2 on separate occasions and have to give them up due to the stress it causes to the corals. I have one Trachyphyllia dead and severals Zoanthus refusing to open. ;)

For sandsifting gobies, I prefer the orange spotted Valenciennea puellaris, they are just as hardy as the V. strigata but will not bomb your corals. B)

Just upgraded the lighting from 10x54w T5's to 2x250 mh's, 2 T8 actinics and 4x54w T5's. WOW!!! The difference is incredible, not just the brightness of the tank but the wasy the shimmering makes the tank look more natural.

The tank is stocked mainly with frags, so these lights should make te tank fill quicker. I can't believe the heat though! Do you guys raise them in the summer months or just turn them off?

SuperBlades

A couple of frags I did myself, 2 Toadys and some Xenia. These were fragged about 3 months ago, and are now just miniture forms of the adult :)

Just waiting for those frags to grow out... :zzzZZZ:

Yo, SB,

What happened to the percs ?.........are they mixing with the saddlebacks or did you lose them ?

And do the two yellow tangs scrap, or are they OK together ?

Looking good tho'..................love the way its developed over the last few months

SuperBlades
12-04-05, 19:39
For some reason the Percs turned on each other, killing the male and seriously injuring the female. She only lasted a week before passing away :(

I've got 3 YT's. 2 of them were rescued from a not very LFS and were in very poor condition. They are now at the peak of health and the trio get on really well :)

Id have thought 3 Yellows in a tank that size really is far far too much.

You may regret that too.

Seems that youve had rather a heavy dose of rough justice having read all the way through this post, wonder if maybe your rushing things a tad.

Matt

SuperBlades
12-04-05, 20:02
Quick run, here they come...

TBH m8, they are all doing well, no fighting, shoal together, eat together, defo no problems :)

Certainly don't regret it ;)

Edit - Not being funny m8, but can you clarify rushing? I'm not saying I've not made mistakes, we all have, but I'm pleased with the way things have gone so far, a few mishaps but no more than to be expected

Strange, just seems to contradict what was advised last night.

Matt

SuperBlades
12-04-05, 20:17
Not a contradiction. I feel that you should have at least 12 months exp of keeping a reef before you jump into keeping a nenny

Good point, thanks.xxmattyxx

I did ask about if my tank was ready, not if i was ready.

I have and am still researching the subject of how to care for a nem.

So how do i get experiance if im not alowd to put anything in my tank then??

I also see that the pm you just sent me SuperBlades:

"have posted pics in the ID section. Really would advise against getting 1 until you have kept water conditions perfect for 12 months +"

This does contradict yet again as you wrote further up this thread SuperBlades:

"Not a contradiction. I feel that you should have at least 12 months exp of keeping a reef before you jump into keeping a nenny "

Now confused as to what you are advising?

So do i need a tank with 12 months perfect water conditions?, or 12 months of experiance keeping a reef?

May i say you have said that you have had your tank set up since the end of Aug 04 and that is not 12 months+ perfect water conditions is it? Not only that but you have 2 nems????

So it is ok for your 8 month old tank but i have to wait 12+?

Please explain.
Thanks

EDIT
:whistling: Oh just looked at your 1st post in this thread and see that on the Dec 3rd 04 you have written that you have a LTA nenny under T5'S? just 4 months since set up??!!! what about the 12+ perfect water???

SuperBlades
13-04-05, 14:05
If you only have expeience of keeping a reef since 11th march this year, stay away from anemones.

I have had previous tanks to the 1 I have now and have the knowledge to provide correct conditions, None have died yet!

As I said before, anemones can be kept under T5's providing they are a the correct sp.

I know that they are great creatures and we all want one straight away, but unfortunatly, unless you have a good depth of knowlegde and good husbandry they should be left where they are.

And the difference is....

If your tank is ready, but you are not, you should'nt get 1

If you are ready but your tank is not, you shouldn't get 1

Now who's confused
