Hi all, I have just set up my Percula 90 tank and am just wondering if the skimmer compartment should be filled with bubbles as well as the actual skimmer. Shurely this lessons the efectiveness of the skimmer. Should it do this or is something not set up right? <_<

I have always had some bubbles released into this chamber, but would not describe it as filled with bubbles. Always been impressed with the skimmer despite this.

Yes you will get bubbles in the chamber.
Reason : There ar two outlets at the bottom of the skimmer for the return water, but all that water has still got bubbles attatched  so this will happen.
If there are loads and loads , maybe you could turn down the air intake a bit, but dont compomise the effecivness of you skimming ;)

Cheers again Fire999. By the way I have just put in my first load of live rock and there is quite a large crab in there, maybe an inch or inch and a half across. Its in a hole at the moment so I won't know untill he comes out but it appears to look like it is coloured like Army combats. Any idea's what it might be?
Cheers again. ;)
out of interest I've always had loads of bubbles in my skimmer compartment, today I made a real effort to try and reduce the skimmer noise, by making sure it didn't touch any sides, and a side result has been an almost removal of bubbles in the skimmer tube.
regards,
greg

I saw a crab like that in my lfs. They said it came in on some live rock and they suspected it was a coral eater. keep an eye on it. :o :D

Hi y'all, Are you using needle wheel or paddle impellers? Is your skimmer pump an aquabee up/2001? I have a paddle on my percula skimmer at the mo and that the extra flow generated was causing the bubbles in the outflow - obviously this must still happen with needle wheel impeller?
