Iv just started a new project
iv built a new cabinet to hold a 5x2x2 tank
and to hold a 30x18x18 miricle mud sump.
iv got the sump running on the 12/01/05 to give it a good boost for when i get my tank ,
then i will drip feed the sump with the tank water { once it is salted and temped up} for a good week , using a small power head , ,
i bought the sump as a basic tank and just copied the layout of a friends sump .
Then put 20 ltrs bio balls and 25 lb of mineral mud in and 2kg of brocken live rock and a small amount of caulerpa ,
with a 24in marine white light over the sump.
a turbo floater skimmer and a ozone reactor , { not installed yet}
plus a rowa fluidizer {not installed yet}
its getting there ,
the main tank will have two small box wiers about 5in square at each end to return the water to the sump .
and two hang over returns to the tank ,
hopfuly about 65 kg of live rock { thats if the funds keep coming in {

update

just added some more caulerpa and just installed my aqua medic auto top up .
water is getting cleara and thers some nice critters showing themselfs.

Nice start!. I note it's a MM set-up but you have a skimmer listed? Not convinced that it's not needed then?

iv read quite a bit about MM set ups, and most have all got skimmers so i thought id follow on the trend .
the system iv got running at the moment is just a gravel filter with a turbo floater 1000 skimmer ,had my ups and downs with type of filter so id thought i go with the MM set up this time and still put the skimmer intouch just for safe keeping .

carl, ecosystems now say you should skimm with there mud, there "sump kit" come's complete with a ratz skimmer so i think your doing the right think useing one..

i aggree danny!
i have run a fairly decent set up for the last two years using MM...but i have been skimming with a small deltec.
i dont think the mud would be enough on my tank.

update
its been two weeks now got a small amount of brown algae growing which is a good sign that every thing is cycling well . :thumbsup:
and the caulerpa is growing fast .
Iv also got some button polyps and a purple mushroom growing on the live rock that i put in .sorted .
just for curiosity i tested my water here are the results.

Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 10
PH 8.2
PHOS .05
Salt 24
Calcium 390

will get more results and update when i get them tested .

iv just had my tank drilled and have put the pipe work on .
painted the back and put thick insolation { not on the picture}
all thats left to do is put two small glass wiers round the outlet pies and were on our way. :thumbsup:

i had to strip my old one down due to the wife moaning over the elecy bill running two tanks . :evil:

the wiers are not as noisy as thought .
and it will be even quiet'er when the doors are on .

i got them at a top price i paid £30 from aquaworld in warrington ,the ricordia stone has got about 9 mushrooms on .
i think thev still got some in .
they also got some orange ones in but there £20 per mushroom .still top price ,
