Hi Lenny

Yeah use epsom salts for uping the mag levels in your tank, you will need to use quite alot of the stuff,I used Andy hipkiss site thanks to the members on this forum pointing me in the right directions.
Andy site has a chart on to work out how much epsom salts you will need to get the target level up require....

HTH

cheers Jamie

Hi Lenny

Epsom Salts is as you prbably know Magnesium Sulphate. If you use this exclusivly to increase mag you will get an inbalance of sulphates.
A better and more balanced solution is to use a mix of 10 parts mag chloride to 1 part mag sulphate which i have been using for approx 6 months and the balance is ok.
hope this helps

You can use them to boost your Mg levels but should really be used to get your initial levels and then use a balanced Mg addative to keep on top of any drops or low water change levels etc.

Lenny, I'm wondering why you have to keep using it- under normal situations a regular water change should keep magnesium levels up. Have you had any kalk accidents or other precipitation events that would hit your mag. levels?

Yep! Disolve in RO and then add slowly to a high flow area, preferably in the sump. You don't want to raise the level by more than 50ppm a day so best err on the side of caution and spread it over a few days if need be.

I think it depends on your salt brand, my batch of 'Reef Crystals' has superb Calcium and alkalinity but low Mg.

i only do water changes every two- three months as they are not as nessasary as we are led to beleve . as my tank on tank the month will prove. as lomg as you replace whats used up water should and does stay more constant and have found corals do not like w/changes too much. this is why i replace mg/ect lenny
