View Full Version : Deepblue's Mixed Tank
HI
I am rather new here.
So I thought I'll start off by doing a simple introduction of my reefing exp with some shots from my tank.
I started out with a 2-footer tank in year end of 2001. It proofed to be a challenging hobby as I struggled to create a successful system.
In Jan 2003, I took a giant step and bought a 2nd hand 4 footer tank(placed it in my bedroom, love to look at the tank and fall asleep in front of it). I started with some soft corals and then progressed to a mixed reef, comprising of softies, LPS and SPS. By late 2004, had to downsize my tank to a 3x2 x2 tank because of space constraint and also converting part of the bedroom to welcome my baby .
Undoubtedly, this hobby has given me more rewards than any other single hobby I've been involved in. It 's simply a fascinating hobby I've been involved in. It 's simply a fascinating hobby

That's a gorgeous tank, what a shame you had to downsize. Will we see some pictures of the new one please?

And finally the equipment:
My Sump
A 15 gallon sump sits at the bottom of the tank.
1 Resun MD40 external pump draws water from the sump to return the water back to the tank. Another Resun MD40 drives water into an in-sump Reef Maniac Miniature beckett protein skimmer.

Very nice if my 3x2x2 turn's out half as nice i'll be dead chuffed.
Thanks guys. I do have the.....er....tendency to overstock
Trying to cut back a little to give rooms for the acros to grow.
Employing the zeovit system ...into the 20 week...the mulms produced by the sytem is the only food my corals are getting, besides the benefits of the lights
Hope to learn more from you guys here

Anyway...the rainbow monti came from states, my friend shipped it in from your side... you guys seem to be able to get this exotic stuffs more readily than us

This is a UK forum, we do have some stateside members but most of us are from the UK. Although if Tony has his way.........
I'm sure the US members and you guys from Singapore probably have much better choice than us. Much closer to the source for a start ;)
Lovely tank!

very nice
yup...we maybe nearer to the source....but sometimes it is more frustrating that way.
I have seenso many gorgeous corals that are shipped overseas instead of local retail despite the demand locally. For example, the latest craze on acan. lords, we have LFS boss that brings in 20 to 30 pieces of them, but none for sale to the local hobbyists. Reason: They can fetch a really good price for them if them ship it to US.
For sps, we get them from fiji and other aquaculture farms in Indonesia. Things like efflo are really rare as well. The soli table I have is probably one of the few in my country as well.
Did a little rescape and threw out my zeovit, going back to the old method of reefing with just carbon, rowa and a strong skimmer.... ;)
