this crab came out of my rock work last night.

does anyone know what it is. And is it safe to have

Looks like a diddy Mithrax to me.. Safe.

Edited to say, saying that, is he brown mottled??

I had a Mithrax.

But havent seen it for months. Throught it was dead

plus mine was green.

Yes, I just spotted the hair legs and thought Mithrax..

If you check his claws that is often the best bet.. Spoon = ok, sharp serrated edges = bad and off to the sump..

And if you look at the website I posted, it may help.. The pic you posted is pretty small (for my rather poor eyes) to really ID it..

the claws are not serrated. But they are black. Like a Mithrax.


It just I thought i might be a teddy bear crab.

I have not see one before.

I will try to get a better picture when he makes a show again.

We found a tiny crab the other night which looks allot like the one in you posted. It is very tiny, not even as big as a 5p including the legs. Doesnt appear to be really hairy and the claws dont seem to be serrated but like I say he is quite small and very scared of movement outside the tank so hard to get a real good look. Will keep and eye on him and hope he doesnt turn out to be a bad one :ph34r:
This is a really great site as soon as we find something new from our rock all I need to do is come on here and I can usually id it without much fuss :)
