Hi all,1st post :dance:
Hopefully not a silly query but can someone tell me what these tendrels/fingers! are,i have had my setup running for 3 months and have watched these grow out of my live rock,there are approx 8 & each one has tiny hairs that extend out the ends every now and then,what are they and are they o.k :thanx:

they are totally harmless algie called Neomeris sp i think. they do not seem to survive long in tanks but they do grow back now and again.

Hope you dont mind me using your piccie as an example tench but I have got some of those 'black beads' appeared on my rock, can anybody tell me what they are please? :thanx:

They look like an algae called valonia, It can become a nuisance if your nitrates get too high.

I have just done a 'valonia' search on the Reefs forum and think I will try to nip it in the bud if pos. :(

Saw some piccies of others who also have your 'tendrils' tench, while I was searching.
