Filter Rock Thingy !!

any one know what this is sorry about the photo ! when i got my hands in the tank next time will get a clear photo of it but what it does is lifts up off the rock and has fine hairs across the top to bottom so must filter !

and the fish got in on the pic anyone know how to sex them i have two so fingers cross !!!

You may need to provide a "better" pic, I can't make out anything in the circle other than liverock. :D
