View Full Version : Marbles? What The....
Found a couple of these in the tank today, no idea what they are. I know the photo is poor, but I can only describe these things as pearlescent green marbles.
Can anybody ID them?
P.S. please ignore the gormless looking, camera loving blenny at the top of the picture
thats bubble algae / sailors eyes
dont pop it as they can spread, mithrax/emrald crabs do a good job of removing it if you dont like it and a few fish will too, my foxface loved the stuff.

hi max
valonia bubble algae
if you remove it, be careful not to pop the bubble as it will release spores and you'll end up with a whole lot more of them.....
Bl**dy typical ! Just put my hand in the tank to try & remove the rock.... POP! <_<
One burst & the other dissapered through a gap in the LR. I guess no-one said this hobby was ever going to be simple
if see any more....and tbh you will..roll them off the rock gently rocking back and forth.
i have just removed one 8-10kg piece of rock and left it ouside in the sun/rain to kill everything off after fighting a losing battle with them on that piece.
I got rid of the valonia in my tank by injecting them all with Elimi-Aiptas. Just thought I'd give it a go whilst having a majano/aiptasia killing session.
After a few hours all the spores seem to die and collect in the bottom of the bubble. Looks quite cool ^_^
It's a couple of months later now ad they don't seem to have reappeared.
just pop the damn things, who cares about the spores?
think about it how do you think a mythrax crab or foxface eats them, they have to pop them to fit them in their mouths dont they? or am i missing something?
never seen a foxface or crab with a full set of cheeks

Good point Mantis
so true though....we all ramble on about needing mithrax and foxfaces etc to rid the tank of this plague....then in the next sentence we tell people.."don't burst them"!
