now that i'm done boring you all my diy here is the (nearly) complete product.
Tank:
Aqua 40 1ft cube
lighting 1x70w halide, 1x18w pc
temp control 25w heater, 80mmpc fan and 120mm pc fan will be controlled by a thermostat when i work out how to wire it up
Circulation 'closed loop' made by empty 900lph externall filter returning on a spraybar also provides an extra 6l of volume.
Filtration too much live rock, a inch layer of live sand and a modded Deltec MCE600 skimmer
Auto top up wih a modded tunze cant remember which one.
Clean up crew of 2 hermits, a cleaner shrimp a turbo and half a dozen nassirus and io snails an a bumblebe snail.
havent decided on coral life yet

The temperature is pretty stable but hope to improve that with the temperature controller, evaps pretty bad at about 400ml a day or so hence the need for an auto top up. heres a couple of closer pics

Can you post some closeup pics of the halide hood.
Do you have fans on that. What height is the lamp above the water?

Looks really good.
What corals are you looking to keep?

it has all the details of the hood, the lamp is around 5inches off the water, not sure yet was thinking of having a clown/nem species tank but not sure if its too small, still deciding, all is stable in the tank, and its nice and mature so we will see
