View Full Version : My New 5x2x2
Here some pics of new tank, only been set up a month, upgraded from a 4 footer, so all live rock came from there.
Unfortunately I lost most of fish when upgrading due to a stressed cowfish, also lost a few corals too. But here is the new tank with the survivors, 4 fish and a few softies. All sps and some softies are generously donated from other members of mgtg(south). Thanks again guys.
Let me know what you think?
Bry

Good aquascaping. Are the rocks resting on top or attached firmly?
Nice tank.
Dhiru
Thanks for the positive comments. To answer a few questions:
The larger rocks are resting, the rest are fixed using milliput. Seems quite stable at the moment.
Quite pleased with aquascaping, old tank the rock was at back against the glass, decided I prefered a more open structure with space behind rocks, so fish have more swimming space and I can see all around. Also my wife (Ness) helped with aquascaping and I think the female touch helped
Specs:
Circulation is 3 aquabee 3000 on closed loops, and an Eheim 1262 for the return from sump. Sump is 36 x 12 x 15 with dsb and calaurpa lit 24/7.
I am useing a Deltec apf600 skimmer outside of sump. fed and returned to sump. Also rowaphos in a home made fluidised reactor.
Am dripping kalk every night manually, but have purchased a kalk stirrer, but not set this up yet.
Main tank is lit by 2 x MH 150W 10000k and 2 t5 actinics. Would like to upgrade to 250w.
All rock is suspended on egg crate with a spray bar underneath by 1 of the closed loops.
Think that answers all your questions, if not fire away.
Bry
Have you decided on a list of fish you'll be adding?
Thanks
Ed
Nice tank, looks nice and clean.
One point though, I spot 5 fish!

No flies on you, I had 4 survivors, I bought 1 clown as a mate, she looked a bit lonely on her own

Yeah, got a fair idea, kids want a regal (dory) , I want a Tomini tang, will add as one of the last fish though.
Also like dottybacks, pair of orchids or cherry.
Coral beauty to replace the last one
Flasher wrasse?
maybe a small shoal of blue reef chromis (Chromis cyanea)
Other than that, open to ideas. I like gobies and blennies
Bry
Have you got any photos of your sump?
I'm thinking of going for a 36x12x15 and would like to see how yours is set up.

Hi Pete,
They are two spaghettii jars, yes they are my fluidised reactors. what you can see is the outlet, the inlet is at the bottom so water flow is pushed upwards through the media.

Yep, that's brilliant.
How many compartments, ie. dividers do you have in there, as I wan't to use mine for a DSB and also to allow for power outages?

Hi, there is three compartments, the first on the right is where the outlets from tank come into, also the feed for the skimmer. The divider is at a 45 degree angle with a small gap at bottom so the water flow goes down and then across my dsb.
To the left of sump is two pieces of glass. the water goes over the first one, then under the other, into the last compartment. Then the return pump is outside of sump, pumping back to main tank.
Hth,
Bry

Think I'm gonna do mine based on your design.
I got an OceanRunner 2500 as a return pump and am planning on using 32mm pipe as an outflow via either a drilled hole and wier, Durso stand pipe or possibly a Tunze overflow box but still not decided as yet.
Need to build a cabinet for the sump first though.

Hi Tony,
Cant take credit for the design of sump, that was thanks to Simon garrett, have a look at his website at reef-eden. Loads of info and photos.
Good luck with yours, and remember to post some photos.

Whats wrong with your snails, I thought they were supposed to bury themselves in sand, 90% are on front glass, Cant see a b****y thing

I should be at the next meeting so I will bring the frag along.
Still not sure what is happening at work yet, certainly not back for good, but don't know how long or when I will have to go back to the states.
I wouldn't look at me for photo lessons, those really were lucky shots, I don't know how I got them , I'm after lessons from phil ;)
Perhaps we should have a mgtg photo night and share tips.
Steve.

Photo meet would be a good idea I think. Between Phil and Si G, I think we should get some good tips.
See you at next meet,
Bry
