I don't know if it's a good idea but have been using it with no problems for over 2 years now. Have to say it is an integral part of our system. Use it in a dual rowa reactor thing and it gets changed every 2 weeks (ish).

As we have no skimmer we feel that nutrient export really has to be carried out by all other means possible. We do 20% water changes twice a month, run rowa and carbon and harvest handfuls of caulerpa on a regular basis.

Caulerpa exudes lots of aleopathic chemicals and turns the water slightly yellow both of which can be dealt with by the carbon.
