Hi! Hi! Everyone!

Been a while since I've posted an update and photos of my tank, so thought it was about time I did.

A few months back I had some trouble with a Fiji Blue Devil Damsel fish which had turned into a killing machine!

A TERROR-FISH WITH EVIL IN IT'S GILLS! DON'T BUY THEM!!!

In a nutshell...after several months of being in my tank, one particular - !EVIL! - Damsel was no longer content picking on his three other mates and started to annoy everything that moved. Yob culture exists in the sea as well.
Queue purchase of fish trap.
Every other fish and also the cleaner shrimp were all to pleased to climb in my trap whilst I sat there holding a far too short piece of cotton, getting more and more frustrated. Eventually, time ran out and I had to take the other Damsels which I'd caught, to a LFS before they closed. This ment leaving one ( 'THE' ONE OF COURSE) in the tank until I could try again in a weeks time. I was going away with work the following morning.

Ironically, just before leaving for the airport the next day, I managed to break my Metal Halide bulb. What happened was my fault and far too boring to explain now. However, what this then ment was the tank only being lit by my Actanic bulbs until after my trip and then after I sussed out how to fix my unit. Not good...for me or some of my corals. Great news for the TERROR-FISH it turned out. During these next five days under the vail of darkness and without the usual distraction of his mates, Terror-Fish murdered nearly all my remaining fish buddies, including two cleaner shrimp and eventually my Red Starfish, who died of his injuries a few days later. Without the excuse of even being hungry, Terror-Fish piled up his trophies on top of one another over his side of the tank and LOUDLY LAUGHED HIS EVIL BELLOW!!!!!

Okay I added that bit. But he probably did.

Five days of decomposing fish, shrimp and coral had an impact on my reef. It took a while for it to bounce back. Thankfully, it has now. I seriously questioned like many others do when something major goes wrong, wether to carry on. Especially as a lot of my prized Zoos showed scars from, I assume the Ammonia/Nitrate Spike. For example, loss of colour and pattern in some of the colonies, particularly the Reds Oranges and those with a pattern in the polyps. A couple of the more delicate smaller types loosed their skirt. Others shrunk. My Blues went brown! I was sunk to say the least.

Thankfully after dragging my heals for a couple of months, I noticed an improvement in the tank. Some of the Zoos started to regain health also, so it wasn't long before once again I was bitten by the insatiable bug this hobby affords. Not to mention my lust for Zoos! I'm now back in the game and hope at some point to move forward with my tank upgrade.

Long winded story I know. I felt it needed to be told however because so many of you helped during my time of need. The info and advise I received during that week especially in relation to the urgent electrical problem was invaluable. THANK YOU!
I'd particularly like to say a special THANK YOU to KAREN & GARY from PARAQUATICS who, basically, saved my reef in offering me the loan of one of their Metal Halide units whilst mine was being repaired. You were so busy in the shop that day and took time out to help me sort things out. Beyond the call of duty and very trusting of you. THANKS.

Right...that's enough waffle!! Here's some pics;

I have recently sold a few of my center piece corals. The Leather corals, Hydnophora & Torch corals. I've done this firstly to create more space for new arrivals. Also I didn't want to include them in my new tank plans. They've gone to a good home however they will be missed. Several photos of my Toadstool Leather Coral are featured in this months addition on 'Reef Keeper' the on-line magazine over on Reef Central. Click here if you want to see them;

ACANTHASTREA - ACAN LORD
I already have a thread running about this coral. So won't go on about it here. However I will say it's gaining more colour every day. These were taken today. It's now getting a nice deep red colour forming.
This is the link if you wanna read it;

Aidyb where EXACTLY do you live. If you won't marry me, and make your polyps my own, then when are you NOT going to be home next... I'm just off to B&Q to buy a crowbar and some large buckets!!

You are in our marine group area too, btw, so if you send me your email I will add you to our 'round robin' for next meetings etc. The next one is in Burgess Hill on 17th of next month. Be nice if you could come. Man those zoos are awesome, I think I'm in love... Hey, the little gobys are something else too. I have never seen one of those before. I have been so busy trying to learn the angels and tangs, its hard to get round them all. :unsure: Thanks, Hermie, for mentioning Aidyb, and Thanks Aidyb for such a truly fascinating post.

Have just been researching the goby and see the consensus is that they should be kept at no higher temps than 74C. How does this fit in with the coral temps?
