Deano,

Where would you run the ozone to?

I don't see it being impossible but why are you adding ozone, what do you want it to do for your system?

And are you going to run a skimmer with the mm? Seems to be what the makers are now suggesting is the best way to run that kind of system.

I still can't find anything that says we should now use a skimmer with the ecosystem. Can anyone post a link for me? Thanks

I use a skimmer with ozone and have a MM bed. I do find it beneficial to polish the water. I use 200MG for 3 hours per day, the skimmer is before the MM bed and the tank is between 400 and 450 gallons.

Not sure how you'd mix the ozone without a skimmer, you might beed to get an ozone reactor.

For what it's worth neither have I.

I never trusted the power of the algae alone because I know what I'm like for fish, I just love loads of fish! So I designed my tank with this in mind and made space for a nice big skimmer too.

yeah i will be running a delta 5oo or 600 before the mm and the gonna have a link off the return going back to the skimmer so the water passes thr the skimmer and mm twice, but was thiking about ozone aswell to polish off the water.

or is this overkill?

I don't understand the conflict between ozone and MM. Sure, a lot of people will say that ozone is not useful, or worse, or better, but why should MM affect that conclusion ?

Kim, its just got a bit twisted. Obviously you wouldn't use ozone on an ecosystem tank as it would butcher the food chain, but somehow Ozone and MM have just become words that never go together in the same sentence.

Aaah,

Thanks Pops, that makes perfect sense !

Sorry Deano, to answer your question: I think that if you are going to use a skimmer, you might as well go the whole hog and use ozone too. It's a great steriliser, much better IMO than UV. Your system won't have the complete food chain that non-skimmer system try to have, but you'll still get some benefits such as pH stabilisation and nitrate/phosphate reduction to name a few.

yeah popsock,

nice to hear something nice being said about ozone from those of us who actually use it!!!
