Hi

I wasn't going to do a diary thing for this new tank but seeing as it was the excellent diary threads that brought me to UR i thought it was only fair i contribute.
Please bear in mind though that quite i'm a novice at tech terms and all that malarky but i'll try the best i can

Right here goes...

This started 2 nights ago while browsing this very forum and noticing a 6 foot tank that was for sale with a cabinet. One PM later and i'm off to have a butchers at it.
All good so i return the next night (last night) with my chef and 2 cars to try and get this back to Cambridge.I only wish i had the camera with me last night as we all cannot believe we managed to get a 6*2*2 tank with most of the broken down cabinet in my Beemer Compact
There then followed a hellride back to Cambridge with not being able to see virtually nothing out of all the mirrors and back window..oh and not having much room for gear changing and that
I am never doing this again.
Anyway,we get back to the pub and theres quite a crowd in the garden wondering how we were gonna get that tank upstairs. To be honest...so was i

God knows how 3 of us done it but we managed to get it up 2 large flights of stairs and around some very 90 degree corners before finally getting it in the room where we want it.Beers for everyone all round and called it a night

So today the mission was to set the cabinet up.I rounded up a suitably foolish regular and off we go upstairs to have a fight with said cabinet.3 hours later we have managed to get virtually nowhere as in our haste we never bothered to mark the pieces of wood when we dismantled the cabinet when purchased :whistling: ......Big mistake.

Anyway after much swearing, sweating blood loss and help from someone who knew what they were doing,we sussed it  Right some pics.I apologise for the bare flesh on show

Does this mean you run a boozer, and your 'friend' is a punter?

Chris,

What wood is your tank stand made of? it looks like chipboard from the first set of photo's. If it is i would add natural wood and make a inner frame.

I would be a little worried if you have a large water spill and the chip board starts to fall appart.

I'm in the process of setting up the tank which has a mdf / chipbaord stand. Which i'm going to add a inner structure made out of proper wood.

Keep the photo's comming

The guy who i bought this setup off had this tank running on that stand.
The wood is thick veneered chipboard and the stand has reinforced inner struts. It has a sticker on it with a reference to a shop called "Aquacadabara" so it has been made with fishkeeping in mind.
It is very stable and strong.
Thanks for your concern though. Gonna have a go at getting the halides up today so check back later for more pics

Chris
