Hello,
Im setting up a 4x2x2 100gal miracle mud system with a 3ft sump. The recomended amount of miracle mud for this system in 30lbs. As im already running over budget with the setup ive decided to buy 20lbs of miracle mud and 10lbs of mineral mud for the fuge. Is there any problems with mixing the two?
Thanks
Keith
it could be said that it would be best to keep your money.....

....and that miracle mud is little more than quartz sand and has been about as near the reef as an eskimo.
but i wouldn't possibly comment!!!
check out the ratios of trace elements!!!
...or maybe not, IMO!
If I was you I'd just use the 20 lbs MM and stock the aquarium very carefully until you can determine what sort of stocking levels that amount of MM can support - I guess if you're over-budget you'll be stocking fairly slowly anyway <_< . Although it is a messy business you can add more later on if you think it's required.
As to your question re mixing the two products, I guess if the argument is that MM is almost totally inert then mixing it with something else isn't going to do much damage!
The debate on MM and its merits etc goes on and on and on. All I can say is that IME the system works and it works better for me than other systems I've set up in the past.
Perhaps MM is a rip-off for what it is, but compared to the price of, for example, a skimmer, I was happy(ish) to pay it, and my tank always looked vibrant and healthy as a result.
HTH & good luck with your new system :)

myself and my girl friend use mineralmud in both are tanks works ok and a lot cheaper than mircale mud in her tank the soft corals grow like mad so yer pay ya money yer make your choice but i would go for mineral mud but you could mix both but not sure theres any point  gary
