View Full Version : New Chromis..........
well it's been a long time coming but she's finally set up and running
i'll try and keep it short and sweet but if any one wants to know anything then please feel free to ask
all the plumbing set up outside the tank showinf scwd returns, reef bar and front jet
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v91/ins@ne/newchromis/a1.jpg
back of tank showing overflow box drains and the rear of the plumbing
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v91/ins@ne/newchromis/a2.jpg
top down shot of the tank sowing all the bars in place
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v91/ins@ne/newchromis/a3.jpg
reef bar drilled and inplace, glass added around the edge to stop sand creep onto bar and any back syphon if any happens. top of pipes have been drilled just below over flow level thou so no major syphon will happen
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v91/ins@ne/newchromis/1.jpg
overflow box from inside the tank. aquamedic comb was used to stop stuff goin down the box etc and also back of tank now painted blue
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v91/ins@ne/newchromis/2.jpg
top view of the same box, this time you can see the elbows that have been placed to keep the end of the pipes under water and then with elbows on the back this acts like a durso pipe and is silent well virtually anyway
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v91/ins@ne/newchromis/3.jpg
started to fill with salt water, woop woop
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v91/ins@ne/newchromis/4.jpg
added the sand after the water!!! mental note to do other way round next time
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v91/ins@ne/newchromis/5.jpg
rock and corals transported from old tank into the new one and can also see the sump on the right which is a converted juwel rekord96 as it has the lid with tube for the dsb, holes in top for overflows etc and used the pump from the filter as teh supply for the skimmer
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v91/ins@ne/newchromis/6.jpg
let this all settle down and then added the live stock
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v91/ins@ne/newchromis/7.jpg
side view of the tank to give an idea of depth, my 2 clowns and my tang along with around 13 turbos and about 3 small red and blue legs that have wandered off some where and my red starfish
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v91/ins@ne/newchromis/8.jpg
corner view of the tank. this time my 6line has also popped out for a quick look
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v91/ins@ne/newchromis/9.jpg
so there ya go. took me about 6 weeks in total since i moved in to finally gettin everything sorted with going on my hols etc but i'm well chuffed now.
all i have left to do is get my dsb swapped over finally and then build a cabinet around the sump and i'm done........ for now!!!

Nice one  . Do you have a sump connected to your chromis?
yes mate
look at the 7th and 8th pic down you will see it there
i have got a juwel rekord96 tank and then modded that.
took the filter box out and put in some glass partitions for the input chamber, dsb and a bubble trap. the pump i got with it now feeds the skimmer etc. i used the tank as the lid will help with some of the evaporation etc. also the over flow tubes go down the holes in the lid quite nicey also the built in light works a treat for the dsb etc too. so all in all thought this would be a good all round idea. might not work like but worth a try, lol
the sump will be houseed away in the end thou just aint put the cover over it untill i'm all sorted
Looking very good - nice mix of colours.
Wel Done.
Tim
I think the Mrs has missed a bit painting the fence
looks great, well done, not sure the yellow tang should be in there though
the tang was a bit big for the tank and is no longer in there :)
thanks for the comments folks

Top tank you've got there
How many fish are you going to keep there?
looking really good
plenty mods there to get people thinking and turned out excellent
mariusz621
in all fairness i have no idea i know i'm not lookin at much but it will be highly stock
ed with about 5 or so fish. might sound a lot but the sump is a rekord 9 so i'm lookin at around 200 litres or so i;m hoping in total and i have an ap600 skimmer on there aswell as the rock so filteration SHOULD be good.
the tang has left the tank and the 6line at the min i have a scooter 1 clown in there (one clown didn't take the move well :( ) so i'm tryin to find a new home for the clown that is left so i can then purchase 2 smaller ones that i can hopefully let bond. the scooter will be stayin thou i know that for sure,
i do have my eye on a blackspot butterfly at my lfs it's quite small at the min and the chromis will only be about for around 2 years untill we get a bigger house and a larger tank, but bit worried aboutit eating flake and the corals!!!
but there will be no rush fr stockin just goin to keep an eye out untill sumin i like comes along :)

cheers mate. when i first got it i was a bit worried about downsizing from a rio240 to this but now it's in and settling down i'm loving it far more as i was able to sit down think where i went wrong on the fist tank and then alter this to suit
if any one is after a nice tank to go in a small area you cant go far wrong with one of these. then again in sayin that i have modded it quite a bit but thats all th fun of it, knowing that yours is one of a kind and that

I'm so tempted to have a six line in my next tank but they can be aggressive little buggers. Any problems with yours?

burntom, he's as soft as baby muck mate, he just keeps himself to himself and potters about the tank B)
my 6 line victimises every new fish that goes into the tank, after a few days he's ok with them though.
I caught him asleep last night in his mucus bubble, I wondered what the hell was wrong till I read up on it on the net!

just a few pics showing some of the coral growth that has gone on. the time span in the blue sponge and the acros on the back were about 5-6 weeks and the acros near the front were about 4 half weeks or so as you can see there has been a little bit of growth in some parts of the coral and very little in others
the blue sponge has gone nuts to say the least from the ickle bit i got broke off a couple of months ago,
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v91/ins@ne/newchromis/zxc.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v91/ins@ne/newchromis/zxcvv.jpg
the acros on the back glass have gone well too with the left hand part showing propper signs of growth. right hand part coming along nicely and the middle bit is encrusting nicely too
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v91/ins@ne/newchromis/asdff.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v91/ins@ne/newchromis/asd.jpg
2 more near the front. right hand part showing a couple of branchs makin nice progress apart form dropping the glass cleaner on and snapping a branch!!! but starting to encrust over nice. left piece not grown much but looks fuller imho
